A humanitarian operation to rescue people in Oleshky, in the Kherson region, has taken place. A ceasefire was established in the Kherson sector, during which roads to Oleshky were cleared of mines and humanitarian aid was delivered. We hope humanitarian access to Oleshky will remain open. Also, people who needed evacuation have been taken out of the city and the surrounding community. As of now, Ukrainian citizens from Oleshky have crossed the Ukrainian border in the Chernihiv region. All of them will receive the assistance they need. It is important that government agencies and all the regional and local authorities involved work effectively and help our people adapt.
I thank the American side and U.S. First Lady Melania Trump for their mediation. I am proud of our Defense Forces of Ukraine, who defend our country and honorably ensured the security conditions for this humanitarian operation. I thank Ukraine’s Human Rights Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, and his team for carrying out this mission. And I thank everyone around the world – every journalist, every political and civic leader, and every concerned person – who helped draw global attention to the situation in Oleshky and the true humanitarian catastrophe in Ukrainian territory temporarily occupied by Russia. When the world pays attention, people are rescued. Further steps toward de-escalation and real progress toward peace are also needed. Glory to Ukraine!

❓What’s happening to the people behind the fence at the occupied #ZNPP?
While the world focuses on nuclear safety, the stories of those who lived&worked in Russian-occupied Enerhodar are often ignored.
Thousands have faced abductio, intimidation&persecution.

Today is the birthday of Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861), a great 🇺🇦 artist and poet, a symbol of the struggle for independence and against russian imperialism. You probably heard about him at least once. Big thread about his life and art. 🧵

Even as the world continues to reel from wars, there are moments in life that remind us of peace and fill us with hope.
One such moment is traditionally the Olympic Games. And today, as the Olympic flame was once again lit for the Winter Games in Milan, I want to congratulate our Ukrainian athletes on the start of these great competitions!
Our athletes always represent the country with dignity, and we believe that this time, too, the national team will give us every reason to be proud.
Today, however, the struggle continues not only in the sports arenas but also on the battlefield, where Ukraine defends its freedom and its right to live.
I am confident that our Olympians, just like all Ukrainian warriors, will show the world the strength of our nation, the power of the Ukrainian spirit, and an unbreakable will to win.
Let’s cheer for Ukraine!

#Ukraine: Russian drone targets journalist #MargaritaPotapova and her Ukrainian Witness film crew near Zaporizhzhia. The drone dropped a grenade near their car, but they managed to evacuate quickly. Potapova experienced temporary hearing loss, but fortunately, no one was seriously injured.
This attack is just the latest Russian assault on journalists covering the war in Ukraine. In 2024, 9 women journalists were injured in Russian missile and drone attacks.
Women Press Freedom condemns Russia’s ongoing attacks on the press. We call on international war crimes investigators to thoroughly examine this attack and hold Russia accountable for endangering journalists' safety.

#Ukraine: #AlonaBereza of ZHAR.INFO received emails threatening to bomb her editorial office. The sender, claiming ties to Hamas, also targeted other sites across Ukraine. Police found no evidence of explosives but are investigating under Article 259 (false threat reports).
This isn't the first attack—ZHAR.INFO faced similar bomb threats in Dec 2024, as did other media outlets nationwide. Intimidation tactics like these aim to silence independent journalism.
Women Press Freedom denounces targeting of Bereza and independent outlets in Ukraine. Authorities must take urgent action to protect journalists and hold perpetrators accountable.

#Ukraine: Espreso TV journalist #MariaIvanovska was threatened by an armed man in Kremenchuk while investigating alleged sales of banned Russian oil products.
The man blocked her car, threatened to break her phone, and demanded she delete footage, claiming the area was a "special regime facility." More men arrived, one claiming to be from a "security service" but refusing to specify which.
Ivanovska called the police and filed a complaint about obstruction of professional activity. While her phone was not damaged, she could not leave the area without police assistance.
Police later interrogated Ivanovska, her driver, and cameraman, citing signs prohibiting filming. However, the journalist denies any restrictions and states the area involved companies linked to criminal cases.
Women Press Freedom denounces these aggressive actions. Security concerns must not be used to obstruct or intimidate journalists. Authorities must ensure clarity for the press and protect journalists from such incidents in the future.

We condemn this harassment, the targeting of Crimean Tatar journalists by Russian occupying forces is a continued assault on press freedom and cultural expression. We call for an end to such intimidation tactics and stand in solidarity with Ediye and all journalists in Crimea.
