Neuralink is helping a man with ALS speak over the phone, type on an iPhone and use Grok, with his thoughts.
Engineers spent 72 hours at his home, building and testing new features alongside him.
Here’s what they worked on:
• Automatically detecting when he tries to speak, reducing the need to press buttons.
• Turning intended speech into text inside iPhone apps.
• Sending speech generated from his brain signals directly into phone calls.
• Starting speech through the app without unlocking his phone.
• Prototyping a Grok AI agent that performs computer tasks after he thinks “Hey Neuralink” and gives an instruction.
One moment meant especially much: he and his wife joking together over the phone again. Their relationship had started with phone calls.
Incredible work by Neuralink, helping people regain a voice, greater independence and everyday moments with the people they love. ♥️

NEW: Yesterday, @CalMatters published a sympathetic profile on a “Fresno father” who was “suddenly” deported by ICE to MX. He told the outlet he’s not a criminal & doesn’t know why he was targeted.
However, I’m told by federal sources that he has been deported from the U.S. five times before, he has an active deportation order, he has pending felony aggravated assault charges from November 2025, he has decades old convictions for DUI w/ bodily injury & negligent discharge of a firearm that resulted in prison sentences, and he admitted in a consensual interview w/ ICE that he’s been a member of the Fresno Bulldogs street gang.
I’m told his real name is LUIS ALBERTO ARREGUIN-VILLA, and he was previously deported from the US in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2003, and 2005, and that he admitted in an interview that he last crossed illegally into the U.S. in 2005 near San Ysidro, CA.
Under federal law, illegal re-entry after deportation is a felony via 8 USC 1326. He has illegally re-entered at least five times.
None of this context appears in the Cal Matters report.

Ngo investigates: I've been able to find out the real identity of the trans violent extremist accused of attacking a @uofutah conservative student after wishing for mass deadly violence.
"Amber Grace" is the alias of Robert Jefferson Tulley. He's a Roblox game developer who has worked on many children's gaming projects.
He works at @gamefamstudios in Salt Lake City. ngocomment.com
“I think Republicans should be shot in the street.”
Video recorded at @uofutah captured an alleged attack by a far-left trans militant who uses the name “Amber Grace.” The victim was a College Republicans member. The trans person, a man, is facing charges of assault and property damage.
Far-left groups immediately said that “Amber” was the victim of the attack by being recorded and that he shouldn’t face any legal accountability.
The chilling call to leftist violence from the trans militant follows a pro-trans gunman allegedly assassinating Charlie Kirk on an Utah campus.

As someone who has personally spent $500k / mo+ on Google Ads for years, I can tell you with certainty:
This revenue growth in Search is artificial & extremely unhealthy for Google’s business long term
Search volumes are declining as legacy search is being increasingly cannibalized by non-monetized LLM queries
Google’s response?
Manufacture revenue growth via short-sighted, highly extractive, customer-hostile tactics. I.e. charge advertisers more for lower quality clicks, including clicks they do not want and explicitly did not approve Google to charge them for
A few examples to illustrate:
For all of its history until recently, Google operated on a 2nd price auction model
I.e. if you bid $5 CPC and the next highest bidder bids $1 CPC, Google charged you $1.01 for the click (one penny more than the 2nd highest bidder) rather than the $5 you bid
This was a genius move by Google early on as it incentivizes advertisers to input their true maximum willingness to pay rather than trying to play the game of bidding low and constantly adjusting to try to stay just ahead of the next highest bidder while still not paying too much
However recently, Google silently deprecated the 2nd price auction and began charging advertisers as much as their bid and budget caps allow, regardless of what anyone else is bidding
It’s a short-sighted cash grab at the expense of the long term health of the advertiser ecosystem
Making thing worse, Google also recently nerfed keyword targeting precision
Google previously had precise keyword targeting settings that allowed advertisers pick individual search phrases to bid on, defined down to the character w/ exact match or phrase match targeting
This was one of the core features that made search advertising magic, enabling advertisers to run extremely precise campaigns based on exactly what their target customer typed
But now, even if you bid on a specific term or phrase using the strictest exact
-match targeting settings, Google will show your ad across 1000’s of unrelated keywords, labeling them as as “exact match (close variant)”
The definition of “close variant” means whatever they want it to and changes constantly. The result is advertisers get billed for clicks that are totally irrelevant to their business and that their targeting settings explicitly forbid Google from targeting. Google does it anyway and there’s no ability to turn this off
So now exact match is broad match, and broad match is just meaningless spam
This is all very bad for advertisers, but for Google, it allows them to show your ad and bill you for clicks across 1000x more searches that were previously going unmonetized (mainly because they’re garbage queries no one wants)
This is how you grow revenue atop declining search volumes
Lastly, and perhaps most egregiously, Google quietly stopped respecting budget caps by a factor of 2x. For example campaigns we’ve been running for years with $1000 daily budget caps suddenly began spending $2000+ per day
And the extra spend is entirely on the garbage keywords Google arbitrarily throws in as “exact match (close variants)” which have no value to our business, but can’t be turned off
Google offers no refunds nor any recourse for overspend or spend on keywords you explicitly did not target
These are not the actions of a healthy business. These are the actions of company whose core business is in decline but desperately needs to pump quarterly earnings so Wall Street will continue to fund insane capex while hopefully looking through their rapidly deteriorating negative free cash flow
Google operated a benevolent monopoly for the better part of 25 yrs
Meaning the value Google captured from Search was but a small fraction of the value it created, and that spread produced a potential energy that justified expectations of high earnings growth far, far into the future
This is now no longer the case
At the alter of AI capex, Google is sacrificing the golden goose
Q2 was an amazing quarter, with our AI investments redefining what’s possible across every part of our business.
Alphabet revenue grew 24% YoY and Google Cloud accelerated to 82% growth. We saw exciting momentum across the board from Search to YouTube to the Gemini app (which reached 950M monthly active users). Our model APIs are processing 22B tokens/min (up from 16B+ last quarter) driven by our workhorse Flash models. We’re also seeing great adoption of Gemini Enterprise, used by 90% of the Fortune 100, as well as strong demand for our security solutions.
Outstanding results and momentum, and such an exciting moment—thanks to all of our partners and employees around the world! 🙌 About to hop on the call!

BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him.
Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible.
The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation “involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.”
Per NYT:
“The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.”

Minnesota's $7.2 Million Medicaid Fraud Case: Guilty Verdict, Overturned, Reinstated
You really can't make this stuff up.
Two things bother me about this case, and both come down to accountability.
First, the blatant fraud and the apparent failure of government oversight.
A company operating out of a mailbox submitted more than 40,000 fraudulent Medicaid claims, collecting $7.2 million in taxpayer money. More than $1 million flowed into the owner's personal accounts, and hundreds of thousands were spent on luxury purchases.
Where were the audits? The verification procedures? The financial controls? How many red flags have to be ignored before someone starts asking questions?
We keep coming in AFTER millions have disappeared, prosecuting the perpetrators and calling it justice. Of course they should be punished, but what about recovering the money? Their assets should be pursued through every legally available means to recoup as much of the stolen taxpayer money as possible.
And why aren't the government officials and agencies responsible for overseeing these programs held accountable when massive fraud goes undetected?
And what is in place now to stop this from happening again?
The second issue is the judicial decision.
A jury heard the evidence and unanimously found Abdifatah Yusuf guilty on six counts of aiding and abetting theft by swindle.
Then Judge Sarah West threw out all six guilty verdicts because she concluded there wasn't sufficient evidence that Yusuf knowingly participated in the fraud. She considered it reasonable that his brother could have orchestrated the scheme without his knowledge.
Seriously?
We're supposed to believe the owner of a company could be oblivious to millions in fraudulent claims while substantial amounts of money flowed into his personal accounts?
The Minnesota Court of Appeals unanimously disagreed and ordered the guilty verdicts reinstated.
This is precisely why we have appellate review, but it bothers me that it was needed in this case.
Think about it. Taxpayers have already lost millions to fraud. Now they're spending even more taxpayer money on additional legal proceedings to reinstate verdicts that a jury had already reached.
And what about judicial accountability?
Minnesota state court judges serve six-year terms. You can do a lot of damage in six years.
Minnesota has an independent Board on Judicial Standards to investigate judicial misconduct, but it generally doesn't review judicial decisions for legal error. That's left to the appellate courts.
I understand the importance of judicial independence. We certainly don't want judges making decisions out of fear of political retaliation or public backlash. But independence shouldn't mean immunity from meaningful scrutiny.
Shouldn't we be examining whether our judicial oversight systems adequately identify patterns of questionable decisions, repeated reversals, or conduct that undermines public confidence in the courts?
Maybe it's time to revisit how these independent judicial oversight boards operate, what they review, and how much transparency the public receives.
Who's watching the watchdogs?

I used to review officer-involved shooting reports generated by a D.A. explaining the decision to exonerate officers, and recall often thinking “I mean, could that *really* be how it went down?” I suspected there may be some fog of war or selective memory or post-hoc justification to give the officer a rational justification and paint the victim in a negative, irrational light.
But with the post-2020 adoption of body cams, I now believe it all. There is no behavior too insane for a huge number of suspects when confronted with literally any command by an officer requesting some form of compliance.
Even I thought body cams would shine a light on some substantial percentage of clear officer abuse, but it’s clearly negligible, while dangerous and erratic behavior by suspects is widespread. It is impossible to overstate how wrong BLM and reform activists were on this count.
