Meanwhile, in Canada...
My novel, One Aon Fatality, is now considered too fancy. 1 star!
Come read my fancy sci-fi book with absurdly lofty prose! 🤣

If your book blurb reads like a school report, it's doing too much explaining and not enough inviting.

Today is the release of my MG interactive Christmas story about an elf who drops Mrs.Claus' present and has to find a way to replace it. I wrote it for a coworker years ago after a boring shift unpacking early holiday stock, and it's one of my all time favourite memories. It has eight different endings, and is illustrated through out. Link in the comments. <3

when you get to 35 and you're single with no kids, you're going to regret it cos you should've already started a family by now. if you get to 35 yo and you've been married for 10 yrs with 3 or 4 kids, you're going to regret that cos you never got the chance to really live out your 20s. so if you marry, you will regret it. if you don't marry, you will also regret it. if you have kids, you will regret it. if you don't have kids, you will regret it. the big problem here is that choosing one life leaves another one unlived and where the regret festers is in our minds, when we romanticize the unknown of the path we didn't choose. we keep hunting for a choice that lets us keep every upside and pay no price but newsflash: it doesn't exist. so ask yourself, do i want this life badly enough to carry its cost? or did i only love it while it cost me nothing? think about that.

It depends on your definition of art.
Some see art as the mere product.
Personally? I think that art as the artist's communication "encoded" in the product.
That makes something made by a human more special than something largely automated.

I am disappointed to report that I went to my local library today hoping to find some works in the history section, to find anything before the Roman Empire has been removed, Medieval subjects are opinion pieces and need vetting, and anything WWI and later are focused on psyops and dark money. Any academically based historical works were lacking. I mean threadbare. Maybe 1-2 works out of a couple hundred but not my needed subject matter. Sigh. It’s disappointing to see propaganda-like works take over the history section.

Bad Writing Tips #60: Accomplished writers never use common phrases like “the night was dark.” They invent poetic alternatives, like “The day was blinding with the shadows of the night” to draw readers in. The more imaginative—and confusing—the better. Fill your books with them.
Thanks to @Demonlillygames on X for this one.

honestly, some books would be better if the author deleted the first 50 pages.
i don’t need 3 chapters of worldbuilding before anything happens.
i don’t need the main character’s entire childhood before i know why i should care about them.
and i definitely don’t need 17 characters introduced before i’ve learned to remember the first 4.
start the story. let me get attached. make me ask questions.
you can explain the world while i’m busy falling in love with it.
but maybe that’s just me.
how much setup is too much setup?
