I myself place Viswanathan, Ilayaraja and Rahman on the same strata albeit Ilaiyaraja is my favourite for multitude of reasons . Many top musicians who worked with both also resonate the same . My Carnatic music guru is my mami , and while teaching me in my school days a Rahman song came on the TV and she told me “ Ivan oru genius da, Ivan kitta nalla taste of music irukku , it would take him to great heights . That was actually true , I realized it a bit late probably after ARR’s Dilse and Vande Mataram .
