Exactly this. Valve has held gaming back for years by locking developers’ PC games into Steamworks’ social walled garden where players can’t talk to other players on iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or even other PC stores.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Nobody is forced to use Steamworks.
A lot of games use Steamworks only for authentication to allow for crossplay and do the rest themselves.

"That food isn't American because an ingredient doesn't come from America!" is a standard that no other country is held to.
Potatoes and Tomatoes come from the new world. Under this standard any Spanish, Irish, English, Italian, or French dish that uses them as ingredients is just appropriated.
Hilarious to say this in a quarter where OpenAI was 11% of revenue
$MSFT Nadella on the call made a very revealing statement when it comes to AI, and directed a subtle dig at OpenAI. Nadella said Microsoft wants to sell AI to a broad base of enterprises, and this "breadth" is finally starting to show up. "That's what I've been waiting for, as opposed customers who buy a lot of capacity from you and you can show a few quarters of growth. That's not a business as far as I'm concerned"

For all those who are confused why there are “devs” coming out of the woodwork running defence for Tim Sweeney, and trying to throw shade at Steam too.
They’ll tell you that its about the “30%”, or the “monopoly”, is that so?
I noticed however there’s a common link between all these accounts.
Most of them are actually mainly upset at the Ai disclosures and labels Steam have. They consider the act of transparency as some kind of atrocity committed by Evil Gaben. See pic 1.
Many of them on their bio and posts shill Ai vibe coding, A LOT.
Also, they are super hyped for Unreal Engine 6, which is Ai obsession given game engine form.

Guy who literally pays developers to not use steam and has gotten multiple games delisted from steam is calling steam a "walled garden."

Apparently being a Cambridge professor doesn’t really mean you know stuff
Under “dictator” Mao, life expectancy in China increased by 30 years, literacy rates went from 20% to 70%, steel output grew from 1 million to 23 million tons, 47 million hectares of land was taken from landlords and given to peasants, and China was unified under a strong central state and got nuclear weapons.
Despite his failures, it does not take a rocket scientist to understand why Mao is revered in China.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Mao's Great Leap Forward and related policies caused an estimated 30-45 million famine deaths in 1959-1961 alone, with total excess deaths under his rule often estimated at 40 million or higher.

-Mao
-a pedo who raped young girls
-invaded and occupied Tibet
-imprisoned tens of millions in concentration camps
-killed 40-60 million
-started the "cultural revolution" which terrorized hundreds of millions
-to this day the CCP censors and whitewashes his monotonous crimes
"mAo zEdOnG iS oUr hErO!111!"
To us Chinese, Mao Zedong is our hero.
Mao uplifted farmers and the working class in China, united the Chinese people, led us to defeat foreign invaders, and founded an independent country so we could all live with dignity.
Mao supported the heroic struggle of the African people against imperialism and colonialism.
He was one of the greatest leaders in world history, and one of the most demonized by the West.

The Soviet Union once single handedly drove several whale species to the brink of extinction because murdering them pointlessly was the best way to fulfil the fishing quotas set by communist bureaucrats in metric tonnes.

Be so grateful to live in the Free World

I’m afraid you suffer from the same mentality so many other billion dollar corporations suffer from. You want to put the companies/developers first. Valve puts the customer experience first. They understand that happy customers are everything.
Because you lack the ability to understand this very simple concept, your store will never see Steam’s success.

Woah, you mean steam is upfront about it and doesnt try to weasel around the fact like some other platforms.
Such a bad company for readily informing you of such a fact.
