Will the suspect who likely killed a 14 and a 12 year old be eligible for @charlesallen's Youth Rehabilitation Act?
New details from the 58-page criminal complaint in the killings of 14-year-old Tyale Coates and 12-year-old Mhilo Young reveal one of the murder suspects recorded a video rapping about the shooting.
Police believe the two children were targeted simply because of where they live. Instagram messages helped investigators piece it together:

The @councilofdc is going to try and change federal law?
So apparently the law bans sitting officeholders from becoming DC Delegate. Which is an issue for the sitting officeholder who's about to win the election... dc.citycast.fm/dc-politics/r…

The LEASE was the agreed upon plan
Replying to @CMRobertWhiteDC
Once everyone agrees on a plan, it gets filed with the court so it is official and legally binding. This protects tenants who just need a little help to get back on track, while making sure landlords get paid without waiting months for a court date 📆

holy crap this is so awesome. you can just buy a car cover and then park wherever you want forever?
Here’s a good example of how frustrating it can be to live in DC, and why people lose faith in the ability of democrats to govern cities effectively.
Did you know that @DCDPW has a silly rule prohibiting its parking enforcement officers from lifting the cover off a car to enforce parking laws?
On our walk with @charlesallen last week I raised this (such a car has been parked in front of my home for two months). The council knows about it. It’s been more than three years since @PoPville wrote about it. And here we are.

Another beautiful walk to school where almost every person we get stuck behind is smoking marijuana. How do these people function at work??

A group of us have been working to bring together people who want a little more common sense from DC government. We’re still kicking around names, but we know what we want to do: help shape our city’s future, support commonsense candidates, and push for a government that gets the basics right.
We’re getting together over drinks on Tuesday, November 17 at 6 PM at The Golden Age. Come meet the group and help shape what comes next!

Even if you disagree with our opinions, the reality is that DC has a political vacuum for those of us who don’t identify with either extreme.
I’ve seen you suggest that people who hold different views from you and the far left faction in DC somehow aren’t Democrats. Many of us have spent years serving Democratic administrations, staffing campaigns, contributing to the party and fighting for its values. We love this party and want it to do better, for the people it’s supposed to serve.
Unfortunately, the city’s far-left movement has alienated people like me. Not because we don’t care about equity or progressive values, but because too often, ideological purity takes precedence over thoughtful debate, practical solutions and whether government actually delivers for people.
I’m determined to help build a home for a commonsense faction in DC. One that welcomes disagreement, values good ideas regardless of where they come from and puts our city’s future first.
And I mean it when I say this: you’re welcome in that big tent, too.

If every tenant in the city finds out they can get a 2/3rds discount on their rent by not paying, don't you worry this is going to create some bad incentives?
Potomac Fever retweeted
Also this. What limitations would there be on tenants abusing the system to get free rent?

Why is the landlord being asked to forgive 1/3 of the debt? Its not a landlord expense. Any concerns of the moral hazard when some (not all) tenants come to realize they can get 2/3 of their rent paid off?
Potomac Fever retweeted
We are really going to raise taxes so that the District can bail out tenants who won't pay their rent?
Replying to @CMRobertWhiteDC
Tenants may be eligible for help to clear the debt. In these cases, the District will pay up to 1/3 of the back rent only if the landlord agrees to forgive at least 1/3 of it too. The tenant then covers the rest. Tenants could also get repairs for their unit or agree to move out.
Hilarious. "the District will pay up to 1/3 of the back rent only if the landlord agrees to forgive at least 1/3 of it too."

If you truly *love* American cities, you MUST support strict enforcement of laws against anti-social behavior. Paying bus fares, red light cameras, camping on sidewalks, smoking on trains, off-leash dogs, etc etc
If people want to do whatever they want, that’s FINE in the suburbs or the country on your own land. But it, fundamentally, cannot work in our densest places where people all have to co-operate in proximity.
If we do not, it means cities will continue to be primarily for those able to avoid the annoyances ... the wealthy and/or child-free.
If we don’t change this … in 40 years we will look back on allowing dogs in downtowns the same way we look at cars:
As a terrible mistake for how it molded dense urban environment for the benefit of a few ... by not properly pricing in public costs of the "free rider" dog owners and by changing the entire culture to accommodate them.
My fear is by then (like with cars today) there will be too many ppl accustomed to the private benefits and impunity of living downtown with their dogs so we're only able to make marginal changes
And that negative downstream effects (fewer kids, playgrounds, dirty sidewalks, dog attacks) will be baked in

Another night in Chinatown, Washington DC… 🤷♂️
DC Police were called out, but both fights had already broken up once officers arrived. This was a block away from Capital One Arena.

I am voting against the foie gras ban because I want to discourage people from investing money in future DC ballot initiatives by making them think "even if we have a reasonable idea, we'll probably end up losing like those foie gras people."
Take it up with the Council!
This type of sloppy legislative drafting might pass in Oregon where @ProAnimalFuture is based, but should have never passed muster in DC. Shame on @RobertWhite_DC @CMRobertWhiteDC @repoyedc @aparnafordc @ankitjaindc who obviously did ZERO background on this kooky group.
