russia is apparently so strong, so powerful, and winning the war so decisively that it needs the President of the United States to pressure Ukraine into stopping its attacks just to keep russia from collapsing. Some superpower.

🚨BREAKING: This new chart from @TheStudyofWar overlays Ukraine’s strikes on Russian refineries with the price of diesel fuel. There is NO CORRELATION between strikes on Russian refineries and spikes in the price of diesel here in the U.S. They are not driving up prices here.

Kellogg turns against Trump. Former US special envoy for Ukraine, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, says Ukraine should continue striking Russian oil refineries. “This is war. They are attacking correctly,” he said, backing Kyiv’s continued campaign against Russian refining infrastructure. #Ukraine

We will be introducing bipartisan legislation to block any and all purchases of Russian oil. It will be called the “Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act.” It will be forced to the Floor via discharge and it will pass overwhelmingly. #PeaceThroughStrength

President Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel amidst Putin’s ongoing and brutal attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense and is a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. While Ukraine fights for its survival, Putin’s war machine continues to prosecute his terrorist war on civilian populations and innocent Ukrainians are dying every day. Now, Instead of implementing the tough sanctions Lindsey Graham fought to his last breath to enact, President Trump has announced the United States is lifting sanctions on Russian energy, fueling the Putin’s war machine. As I saw firsthand in Ukraine last month, Putin is losing this war. Ukraine has fought the Russian military to a standstill and reinvented warfare with drones taking the fight into the heart of Russia. America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression as we did during the first Trump administration. Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants Ukraine. I have no doubt that if Putin overruns Ukraine, it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him. America is the Leader of the Free World. For our National Security, for the security of our Allies in Europe including Ukraine, President Trump should rescind this deal immediately and return to the strong policies of our four years in the White House; impose harsh sanctions on any nation purchasing Russian energy and work with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. President Zelenskyy’s comment on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s remarks that the war in Ukraine is at a "strategic stalemate" and that there are now "no prospects for a negotiated settlement": "You cannot negotiate future economic projects with Russians on the one hand and, on the other, claim that we are in some kind of diplomatic stalemate. We are not in a diplomatic stalemate. Shut down Russia’s entire economy. Shut Russia's mouth. Stop feeding them through your sales. Impose sanctions on their weapons. Open Starlink for Ukraine. You opened it when responding to Iran, after all. Everything worked there. Israel completely controlled the skies over Iran. So when you need it to work, it works. It costs them nothing to help Ukraine. And I said quite frankly: help us protect our skies and gain dominance there. Then Putin will sit down at the negotiating table. Why? Because he will lose everything. In two or three months, he will lose everything. And instead, we are waiting for the Chinese to develop an equivalent and hand it over to Russians. This is not a stalemate - this is called a lack of will."
"Right now, there don’t seem to be prospects of a negotiated settlement of the war in Ukraine. But the US is prepared to play whatever role we can in making that happen. It would be good for Russia and Ukraine, but so far, it’s proving elusive." - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio In an interview with the Greek outlet Kathimerini, Rubio described the war in Ukraine as a "strategic stalemate" that can be overcome in only two ways: through negotiations or through escalation that goes beyond the original conflict. Rubio said that, at present, there are no prospects for resolving the war through negotiations. According to him, Russia continues to insist on full control over Donbas, while for Ukraine "that condition is simply unacceptable." "A diplomatic solution has eluded us, but we are prepared, if we can play a constructive role, to make it happen. In the meantime, we watch with great concern as escalation could happen. Just yesterday, some ships were attacked in the Black Sea through a coordinated drone attack. We’re worried about a sabotage operation in a neighboring country that can spiral out of control. And, obviously, there are clear indications that Russia will use the upcoming winter as something they want to use to destroy what remains of the electric grid in Ukraine and force them into capitulation. Meanwhile, Ukraine has grown more effective in its ability to conduct long-range strikes deep into Russia. So, we share the same concern. The whole world is going about this thing like something that could escalate and perhaps become a broader conflict. So, we stand prepared to facilitate and continue to explore any opportunity for a negotiated settlement," Rubio said.

Nothing says “fighting NATO expansion” quite like bombing a historic building of Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences in central Kyiv, forcing ordinary scientists to jump from windows to escape death in the fire. This has been done by fascist barbarians stripped of the last remnants of reason and conscience by impunity and endless appeasement, obsessed with senseless violence, destruction, and atrocities.

People in temporarily occupied Oleshky are starving. There is almost nothing left to eat. Reports indicate that civilians are being forced to survive on grass and weeds, while medicines, clean water, electricity, and medical care are increasingly out of reach. Children are trapped in these conditions too. This suffering has a clear cause and a clear perpetrator. Russia has brought this catastrophe to Oleshky through its illegal occupation and bears full responsibility for this humanitarian disaster, all of its consequences, and the innocent civilian lives lost as a result. The international community must mobilize every available instrument to reach people in Oleshky, deliver humanitarian assistance, and ensure the safe evacuation of those who want to leave. The @UN, the @ICRC, and other international actors must use their mandates and channels to secure immediate and unhindered humanitarian access. I appreciate @CommissionerHR Michael O’Flaherty for drawing international attention to the situation in Oleshky. Now this attention must be followed by action. People there cannot survive on statements of concern. Humanitarian access and safe evacuation must become a reality, because every day matters.
I am alarmed by the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Oleshky, a town in the temporarily occupied parts of the Kherson region of Ukraine. Civilians, including children, are trapped without sufficient food, medicines, medical care, running water or electricity. Reports indicate that they face a high risk of death. Under international humanitarian law, Russia, as the occupying power, has the duty to provide food and medical supplies and to facilitate humanitarian relief. I call for an immediate local ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and the safe evacuation of civilians. The hardship and suffering of people caught along the frontlines of the war and in occupied territories demand international attention and action. #humanrights #Ukraine #Oleshky #Kherson #HumanitarianLaw

Where are the movie stars? Where are the campus encampments, the screaming crowds, the protests demanding the world act NOW? Children are starving in Oleshky. Old people are dying in Oleshky. Why? Because Russia occupies this Ukrainian city. Food cannot get in. People cannot safely get out. The roads are mined. Humanitarian access is blocked. People are scavenging for something, anything, to eat. @POTUS @jaredkushner @SEPeaceMissions - you did this for Gaza. You got food to the hungry, and medicine to the sick. Open the roads. Allow humanitarian aid in. Let the children and elderly leave.

That Danish intelligence report is broadly in line with what the Baltics are saying. The threat assessment is unchanged here. Russia increasingly seeks to escalate its so-called hybrid attacks on the West, while a more conventional military strike on a NATO country - possibly as a false flag - is a low but real possibility. What happened in Leipzig shows though that this is definitely not just a story about the Baltics. All of Europe is threatened. Russia will escalate wherever it senses weakness. The really crucial bit in the intelligence is that Russia still wants to keep everything below the threshold of triggering a military response. And the purpose is to deter us from supporting Ukraine. A couple of things have confused the public perception of all this. Firstly, El Mundo released a story just before about CIA warnings of military drone strikes across Spain, France, and Italy. Macron made clear later that wasn’t true. The clue is that would pretty obviously trigger a strong, united European response - exactly what Russia wants to avoid - so that threat only works for Russia as a story about what Putin might do. Also, the Institute for the Study of War recently released a plausible-sounding analysis about how a Russian incursion into Estonia at Narva might unfold. Not too plausible to a lot of people who live there though, especially those in the Estonian Defence League. The analysis was based on a number of flawed assumptions about local dynamics, which hugely overstate Russian capabilities, including inside the town of Narva itself, and hugely understate Estonian capabilities in their own country. I was writing about that yesterday when the Danish report came through so decided to put it all together in this one article. TL;DR: We spend a lot of time arguing about what Putin will do next. But the future of our nations can never be dependent on the whims of one adversary. What really matters is ensuring our countries are secured against any adversary who would seek to harm us. Despite what “Russia experts” on here will tell you, Russia’s calculations about whether and how to escalate are not predetermined. They are constantly calculating the strength of our resilience. Narva is actually a great example of that resilience, exemplifying the whole-of-society approach to defence across Estonia and the Baltics and especially in Finland. People who live in Narva are not background actors waiting to take their cue in Russian narratives. It is an Estonian town, home to a lot of people who are trained and ready and proud to defend their country, Estonia, against any adversary and every day prove themselves to be capable of disrupting those who would harm their town. And that whole-of-society approach to defence goes much deeper, including through education on media literacy, for example, or how to spot attempts at grooming assets, and involving all civic society in crises exercises. Frankly, to all our fellow Europeans and to all fans of a rules-based world of sovereign nations, stop pitying Narva and start learning from them. And remember the best defence is to stand firm on our values and support Ukraine.
