I'm telling all athletes....KEEP TAKING CREATINE/START TAKING CREATINE. You NEED it. Put that shit into your body. A good diet and proper sleep are FOUNDATIONS but you're an athlete and that just won't be enough. Take it from someone who has ALL his athletes take it for the better part of 2 decades (NFL All Pros, NFL HOF, NBA Champions, Olympians, World Champions, PGA Golf Champs, NCAA National Champs, NHL athletes, female athletes, endurance athletes, high school athletes, etc...
I’m telling all athletes…STOP TAKING CREATINE. You don’t need it. Stop putting that nonsense in your body. A good diet and proper sleep are best. Stop letting little Jimmy at the local Planet Fitness tell the top 1% of human bodies what to supplement. Creatine is like filling a balloon with air it looks bigger and better till it’s time to put it under stress. That’s why soft tissue injuries happen. Your muscles lack pure substance.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Scientific evidence does not support claims that creatine causes soft tissue injuries in athletes. Reviews and studies, including of collegiate football players, show no increased injury risk and often lower rates of strains, cramping and total injuries among users.

🏆Student-athletes often cannot meet elevated needs through three large meals alone. Strategic snacks (mini-meals) help by:
• Adding 200–500+ kcal and key macros/micronutrients without requiring another full meal.
• Supporting steady energy, blood glucose, and focus between classes/practices.
• Enabling proper pre- and post-workout fueling (carbs to top off glycogen and sustain intensity; protein + carbs for recovery and muscle repair).
• Filling gaps in common shortfalls (e.g., calcium/protein from dairy or fortified options, iron from fortified cereals or lean proteins paired with vitamin C sources, carbs from fruit/grains).
• Distributing protein intake across the day (better for muscle protein synthesis) and reducing the risk of large energy deficits.
NCAA resources note that frequent lighter snacks can improve nutrient delivery around training while minimizing GI discomfort from very large meals.
Timing matters: carbohydrate-focused options before activity, balanced carb + protein afterward, and nutrient-dense choices anytime to support overall health.

If you don’t increase your Relative Strength, you leave your Speed completely up to Elasticity.
In the very likely case that you aren’t highly elastic, you will stay slow.
If a slow athlete has any chance to get fast, they will need to get significantly stronger.

The bench press is often reduced to moving the bar from the chest to lockout.
But effective pressing involves how the entire body organizes to generate force.
Attractors we look for:
▪️ Bend the bar
▪️ Pressurize the trunk
▪️ Meet the bar & actively pull towards the body
▪️ Push the body away & drive the upper back into the bench
▪️ Break the ground with full 🦶contact & drive opposite direction of the bar path
These aren’t rigid positions to copy. They’re movement principles that help connect the athlete, bar, bench, & ground.
Don’t just coach technique. Coach how the athlete interacts with the task & environment.

⚾️ Nutrition for the baseball athlete
Example: 16 YO 5’11 and 195 lbs
Calories: 3,600–3,800 kcal/day
🥩Protein: 160–195 g/day (spread over 4–6 feedings)
🥔 Carbohydrates: 4–6 g/kg = 350–530 g/day for glycogen & explosive power
🧠Fat: 80–110 g/day for hormone & joint health
Why nutrition matters👇
🍠Carbs keep reaction times sharp, legs explosive for base running, and arm velocity high.
🥩Protein repairs muscle tissue from strength training, throwing, and hitting.
🥑 Healthy fats reduce inflammation from repetitive movements and aid hormone production (key for a growing teen athlete ).
🍉Consistent fueling prevents late-game fatigue and keeps performance steady over long tournaments.

The danger zone that no teen, athlete or adult should ever reach for...
🚨Energy drinks and youth athletes🚨
Children, teens, and young athletes avoid energy drinks, citing potential health risks and the lack of performance benefits.
Caffeine Overload
-Many energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine (often 200-300+ mg per can)
-Increase heart rate and blood pressure
-Cause jitteriness, anxiety, or poor sleep
-Hurt focus and recovery
**Using an energy drink for fuel is like rearranging furniture on a sinking ship
No Substitution for Nutrition
No energy drink can replace proper fueling, hydration, or sleep. Athletes need real food, hydration, and balanced meals to perform and recover optimally.
Hidden Ingredients
Energy drinks often contain herbal stimulants (like guarana, yohimbine, or ginseng), sugar alcohols, and other ingredients that cause GI distress.
Better Alternatives
-Water + electrolytes
-Coconut H20 or cherry juice for fuel
-Chocolate milk post-workout
-Coffee in moderation (for older athletes)
-Carbohydrate-rich snacks for energy
Fuel with food first. Energy drinks are a shortcut with a cost—especially for developing athletes.

The big moment doesn't make you.
It exposes you.
Iowa Coach Ben McCollum said it best. Preparation isn't a game-week thing. It's a daily identity.
Who you are every day is who shows up when it counts.

Comfort has ended more championship seasons than hard work ever will.
Comfort tells you to skip the last rep.
Comfort tells you today’s good enough.
Comfort tells you you’ve already earned it.
Meanwhile, your opponent is hoping you listen.
Championship teams don’t chase comfort.
They chase the standard.

How you feel is your business.
The standard is ours.
Some days you show up energized.
Some days you’re exhausted.
Some days life is good.
Some days it’s not.
The bar doesn’t move.
Because if the standard changes based on how you feel, it isn’t a standard at all.
It’s an excuse.
Championship teams aren’t built on motivation.
They’re built on consistency.
The teams that win aren’t the teams that felt the best.
They’re the teams that showed up and met the standard anyway.
Tired?
Meet the standard.
Sore?
Meet the standard.
Bad day?
Meet the standard.
The standard doesn’t care how you feel.
Neither does the scoreboard.

- Good body language
- Nodding when listening
- Growth mindset
- Seek feedback
- No excuses
- Leave ego at the door
- Accept criticism
Being coachable isn't knowing it all.
It's being willing to learn it all.

Athletes don’t need Fancy Drills… they need👇🏻
1. High Relative Strength Ratios built through basic loaded movements.
2. Frequent exposure to High Speeds
3. Train through Full Ranges of Motion
This is what effective training looks like. Absurdly simple🙌🏻

Absolute Strength development with Heavy loads IS Speed and Power development
Absolute Strength has downstream effects on all other abilities as it raises one’s capacity for Force Production.
If you only move fast, you won’t raise Peak Force capabilities to the greatest extent.
