We visited my wife's cousin recently (to get a cuddle of his new grandson) and Kathryn and Geoff (her cousin) walked the baby in his pram. The real reason for this was that the community has a rota to walk regularly by the primary school and the kindergarten as part of the security effort. Just a check so anything untoward gets reported to the police and CST. Ten elderly men doing this.

This is genuinely dangerous. Pretending you care about the plight of children to dehumanise other *children* is pretty deep in the pit of racism.
The best way to prove there's no antisemitism in UK schools is for Palestine supporters to alternately mock Jewish kids' experiences, accuse them of lying & having insidious power to prioritise themselves over 'real' racism. This should be a wakeup call for the Left. It won't be.

To my mind, the only point of comparison between the Rushdie and Rooney situations is that the man who stabbed Rushdie multiple times and almost succeeded in murdering him chanted "free Palestine" as he entered the courtroom for sentencing last year.
If you ever sought out the novels of Sally Rooney in bookshops – when that was still possible – you’d know they sit in the fiction stacks adjacent to the novels of another SR whose books have been withdrawn in dastardly political circumstances. Until last week, “Rooney” and “Rushdie” had little in common beyond being shelfmates; now they have more than just a physical proximity. @tanjil_rashid_: This is censorship by other means newstatesman.com/comment/202…

This is reminder that even if you think Palestine Action shouldn’t be proscribed Sally Rooney still isn’t a free speech martyr given she has gleefully tried to inflict silencing boycott on other artists. She is emblematic of the malignant opportunistic hypocrisy of the movement.

A trustee of PEN America just nuking Rooney from orbit like this suggests a return to sanity is possible if we want it:

This predates her husband Jonathan Powell's appointment by Starmer by three years. Had it come up he surely would not have got the NSA gig. The fact he was hired implies there was no developed security vetting. Did @Keir_Starmer override the security services?
Sarah Helm appears to be complaining about the banning of Hamas and the criminalising of people like her who have 'dealings' with them This was in 2021

There's a large Vietnamese community in France 🇫🇷. Vietnam was a French colony that was ruled more directly and for longer than Algeria in many respects. Vietnamese kids top the French education rankings, have some of the lowest unemployment of any immigrant group, and somehow managed not to set Paris on fire. Weird how some use “colonial trauma” as a reason to succeed and others treat it as a reason to riot
American-Egyptian activist Eman Mabrouk celebrates the riots in France: ''I think burn it all down, stop sucking European Master's dicks, liberation isn't going to be pretty, it's going to cost blood, it's going to cost lives.'' Really cool how this third world bio-weapon somehow gets a piece of paper calling her American even as she agitates for race war against white people. 70,000 Instagram likes! Also really fucking cool that so-called ''Australian'' citizen Dr. Mo Mustafa - widely known as the "Beast from the Middle East'' - collaborated with her on this Instagram reel. He calls himself an Australian for the benefits of the passport while endorsing videos like this which call for explicit race war against Europeans. Western immigration policy has been a catastrophe for decades, how the fuck did these people get passports when they hate us this much.

I urge everyone to read this. Especially Sarah Helm.
I am not Jewish. But I am a proud Israeli citizen. I live in Tel Aviv. Despite the world having extremely opinionated views about the country I live in, few people I have come across on X (that don’t live here) know little of substance about Israel apart from their warped sense of history and reality. This is the first post of a series I will write entitled Everything You Think You Know About Israel is (Probably) Wrong. The points are not in any particular order. Spread the word. Most Israelis (just over 50%) are not white. The devastating impact on European Jews of the Holocaust meant that the newly formed Israel in 1948 was largely populated by Jews fleeing persecution in Muslim-ruled countries predominantly in the Middle East and North Africa. These are known as Mizrahi Jews and when the State of Israel was formed they made up 80% of the Jewish population living here. Jews have had a continuous presence in the land of Israel since around 1208 BCE, that’s 3,200 years — long before the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. The Muslim faith, in contrast, dates back 1,400 years (610 CE). Yes, when they lost majority rule in the 7th-century Muslim conquest they were not in the majority for centuries, but still lived in their ancestral homeland. Arab terrorism against Jews existed before 1948. In 1929, for example, 67 Jews were killed in the Hebron massacre, attacked and slaughtered by the Arabs they lived and worked beside. My wife’s great-grandfather Ben-Zion Gershon (who was a local doctor that often treated the Arab community without accepting payment) was tortured, had both his eyes gouged out and was then murdered. This was after his daughter Esther was raped in front of him, and his wife Zahava had both arms chopped off and was left to die. This was just one of many similar massacres inflicted on Jews that day. I will continue this series over the coming days.

Jonathan Powell’s position as National Security Adviser is untenable. His repeated meetings with the CCP were disclosed not by the British Government, but by Chinese Communist Party read outs, and serious questions remain over his role in the collapsed China spy case. He is responsible for the Government’s disastrous Chagos negotiations and still advocates giving away billions in taxpayer money to surrender a British territory. He has refused to appear before many Parliamentary committees. Now, concerning material shared publicly by his wife raises further questions about his judgement and sharing access to sensitive information. If he were a Minister, he would have to appear in front of Parliament to answer for these glaring concerns. Instead, the man running our foreign policy and national security refuses any scrutiny. telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…
The National Security Advisor’s wife’s tweets have raised serious questions about the handling of sensitive national security information, and the process of approving proscriptions. Is Jonathan Powell's position still tenable? I’ve written to the Prime Minister for answers.

Exactly. When hate comes from their own camp, they close ranks
Imagine a foreign author says they are determined to fund an extreme far-right group which has attacked Muslim-owned businesses, communal organisations and broken into a British military base and sabotaged equipment there. Would they get this support from luvvies and lefties?

Absurd comparison. No-one is issuing a fatwa against her, least of all because of her bloviating novelistic descriptions of the personal relations of sensitive leftist Irish twentysomethings. It's because she wants to donate the royalties to a banned terrorist organisation

Government chief security advisor Jonathan Powell's Palestine Action-supporting wife here busy digging her husband's professional grave. Her Hamas apologist social media posts have made his position untenable. This can't go on, Powell will have to step down.
Julia Hartley B really takes the biscuit doesn’t she? Just watched her trilling along calling me a Hamas supporter and anti sémite as if she got me all banged to rights and the spectacled chap with her nods along I mean who is this creature? Seriously ?

I genuinely think the Speaker has to hold government ministers feet to the fire over answering questions.
Today, Lord Callanan asked Cabinet Office Minister, Baroness Twycross, how Sarah Helm, the wife of National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, knew details of the decision to proscribe Palestine Action. The minister refused to answer.

Check out Sarah Helm's anti Iraq War play 'Loyalty'. From the Guardian review: "Fortunately for the plot, this is a couple who don't "have secrets at home", and this extends to Nick allowing Laura to listen in on all his phone conversations and read all his most important government documents."
Replying to @jwomencount2
Sarah Helm didn't make a secret of listening in to her Jonathan Powell's work calls and making notes. "The phones never stopped, so I was always earwigging on the answers to the questions the PM asked, learning what worried him; what mattered, at all hours of day and night"

Pretend there’s a UK organisation called ‘Israel Action’. Its members smashed police officers with sledgehammers, attacked RAF bases, violent disorder, forced entry, burglary, and millions of pounds of damage. Would these signatories be so charitable to an author funding them?
OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.
