Some things are worth taking a few days to verify properly. This is one of them...
I'm proud to announce that I have successfully driven through all 48 contiguous states plus DC in my 2026 Tesla Model Y Juniper on FSD 14.3.2. And I did it solo. Actually, let's be accurate. I rode. FSD drove.
🗓️ May 20-29, 2026.
🗺️ 7,241 official miles. 9 days, 21 hours, 50 minutes.
⚡ Not a single gallon of gas. Not a single steering input. FSD drove every mile.
💵 Total cost: $901 in Supercharger fees. Same trip in a comparable gas SUV: ~$1,303.
The moment that defined the trip: the tri-state corner of MT/WY/SD, the most remote stretch of the drive from a Supercharger standpoint. I could have taken a safer route but I wanted to get there on a single charge. I knew the risk. Turned off the AC, sweated through 95°F inside the cabin, arrived at 2%. Cost me a little backtracking to officially enter Wyoming. Worth every mile. 🎯
Call it a Gentleman's Cannonball Run. I pushed hard every single day, but with rules. Sleep every night. No tickets. No driving tired. Highway speeds. Supervising an autonomous system while exhausted is reckless. I know a little something about that. Those aren't arbitrary rules, safety is my first priority. I'm an airline pilot. ✈️
Based on everything I've been able to find, this trip may represent three records worth noting:
🏆 First FSD drive through all 48 contiguous states plus DC. Solo.
🏆 Most US jurisdictions covered in a single FSD trip (49)
🏆 Possibly first and fastest EV drive through all 48 states plus DC
All claims subject to verification. If anyone has done this before, I genuinely want to know. My data is fully logged and available.

Zero. – at Commerce City, CO
The amount of snowflakes in the Tesla community today is unbelievable. They are coming out with the cold weather.
I posted a video today of FSD pulling into an oncoming lane and literally coming to a complete stop as a car came straight towards it. That's something Tesla nerds like to talk about. My wife I both drive one and I want to know if there is something we need to pay attention to.
The emotional responses were ridiculous. They act like simply talking about a problem is a problem.
It feels like something is beginning to shift. Larry this is some amazing outreach. It's no exaggeration to say you've helped give some of these people a new lease on life. Well done. – at Commerce City, CO
There's an entirely new auto market being opened up by FSD.
My wife and I moved into a retirement community last year, and we were joined by my brother and his wife. Our homes are almost next door to each other. Being longtime Tesla owners, we joined the EV group that meets once a month and shares information. I offered to talk about my experience with FSD, and they were excited to hear about it. So I prepared some slides and videos, freely purloined from the great material on X.
The results were pretty astounding. The average monthly meetup usually had, perhaps, a couple of dozen people. Instead, the meeting notice talking about FSD drew a packed house of perhaps a hundred people, and we had to turn people away as the room was full.
Well, that was last quarter's meeting. This quarter's meeting was held last week, to a significantly expanded group. And what did we hear? We heard about a couple that had stopped driving, their car sitting parked because they felt too unsure of themselves to drive. After my presentation, they traded in their vehicle for a Tesla with FSD, and now they are at about 97.5% on FSD and feel that they have been liberated. When I asked "why only 97.5%," they explained that the car lost its way in their underground parking garage (they live in the apartment section of the community). I explained that they could drop a pin on their actual parking spot rather than the address, and that may solve their problem.
What struck me even more than the people who bought new Teslas after the presentation was how many seniors talked about their own FSD experience, and how many of them were achieving mid- to high-90% FSD driving. There was uniform enthusiasm for the product and for what it meant for them in their senior years.
That matters in what is rapidly becoming an aging population.
The FBI wasn't interested. Neither was the CIA. But a quirky, curious astronomer wouldn't let go. How a 75 cent error brought down a Cold War KGB spy ring. True story. – at Denver, CO
In 1986, a tiny 75-cent discrepancy in a computer billing report set off one of the most remarkable detective stories in the early days of computing. Clifford Stoll, an astronomer at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, could have dismissed the missing amount as a rounding error. Instead, his curiosity turned it into a full-blown investigation.
What started as a simple accounting puzzle stretched into a ten-month odyssey. By poring over login records, network traffic, and unusual nighttime activity, Stoll realized someone was systematically breaking into the lab’s systems. What first looked like possible student mischief quickly revealed something far more serious.
The intruder turned out to be Markus Hess, a skilled German hacker who had penetrated U.S. research and government networks, including systems linked to the Department of Energy and military programs. He wasn’t merely browsing: he was stealing sensitive data and selling it to the KGB.
With almost no established cybersecurity practices to draw from, Stoll had to invent his methods on the fly. He created custom monitoring tools, set digital traps, meticulously logged every move the hacker made, and worked closely with authorities. His persistence and ingenuity eventually traced the intrusions across the Atlantic, providing the evidence needed to expose Hess and shut down the espionage ring.
All of it traced back to that single overlooked 75 cents.
In 1990, Stoll chronicled the entire saga in his bestselling book The Cuckoo’s Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage, which offered an early, gripping look at digital spying and helped lay the groundwork for the cybersecurity profession.
Stoll’s story remains a powerful reminder that curiosity, attention to detail, and relentless determination—even when focused on something as small as 75 cents—can reveal hidden threats and alter the course of technology’s development. It served as one of the first clear signals that information systems were becoming strategic assets, every bit as valuable and vulnerable as physical ones.
Nothing beats seeing it first hand. Glad you got to see it. First of many for you! – at Commerce City, CO

First Starship orbital flight. First Operational Starlink V3 deployment. And it happened right over the Orange River, South Africa's longest. The kid from Pretoria, has to smile at that one, @elonmusk – at Denver, CO
