One of the most harmful & consequential bills for #txed of all time will be considered in a "formal hearing" with no testimony. It is a huge voucher bill that allows 70-80% of students to get private school tuition subsidized by our taxes and defund pub ed. Bad for TX! #txlege

Vouchers are anti-civil rights legislation that will harm TX children. I visited the Capitol recently to talk w/ legislators, educators, & citizens about the racist origins of vouchers, discrimination against kids w/ disabilities, & failures in other states. @TexasAFT @pastors4txkids @DianeRavitch

Vouchers, ESA's, etc. in other states have become a subsidy for the wealthy. In Louisiana, 99% of people receiving them make $200K or more, 87% in Virginia. itep.org/tax-avoidance-fuels…. @tasanet #txed #txlege I don't want my tax $ to subsidize private school tuition for the rich.

Transparency and accountability are clearly a problem with many charters, expressnews.com/politics/art…. Vouchers for private schools would have none. We simply can't afford to fund three systems of education with three sets of dramatically different rules: public, charter, private.
