RFK Jr. has long called for a ban on drug ads entirely. That seems unlikely — but reform is possible. trib.al/Ro90oF7

Much will be written about how 4 PhD students and a PhD – Colette Delawalla, Sam Goldstein, Emma Courtney, Leslie Berntsen & JP Flores – organized Stand Up For Science to unite scientists in the US and worldwide. Now let's keep it going to defend science!

To everyone in the U.S. standing up for science today, calling for policies that support science, not suppress it: we’re with you! Cutting science doesn’t just harm scientists – it harms society as a whole. #StandUpForScience

Basic science is inspired by curiosity, accountable to evidence, and subject to peer review. Politics should have no role.

Science is indispensable to society. Unfortunately it takes 10 years to do the experiment to prove it, as we have never had a placebo arm. This is the one experiment definitely not worth doing.

The US has always been a science powerhouse and the envy of the world, but leadership isn’t guaranteed. If we don’t invest (in research, infrastructure, people), we fall behind. Period. We’re at a crossroad here - either we double down, or we watch other nations pass us by.

Measure Lp(a) at least once in every adult When you find a person with Lp(a) you find a family with Lp(a)! @BCMHeart @BCM_CVRI @nationallipid @society_eas @ASPCardio @CMHC_CME @FamilyHeartFdn
New research confirms Lp(a) plays a key role in CVD risk.🫀 The NLA now recommends every adult have their Lp(a) levels measured at least once. 📑Read the update & download resources: lipid.org/nla/focused-update…. #HeartMonth #CardiovascularHealth #LpaAwareness #HeartHealth

Cuts to science agencies will severely undermine America’s global scientific leadership, damage local economies nationwide, & ultimately slow or stop the development of treatments American people desperately need. ➡️Read ASBMB's statement on mass layoffs: bit.ly/4hXa73T.

My time in industry convinced me of the importance of basic, government funded science research. It was crazy how much of the stuff we did was based directly on academic research that in-and-of-itself would have been too risky and/or too low-return for the company to do

At the moment, mansion-sized Asteroid 2024-YR4 has a one-in-fifty chance of hitting Earth in the next eight years. Now might be a bad time to reduce spending on Science. Just sayin’.

There is a difference between an audit to improve and streamline a system that needs reform and the culling of a scientific enterprise that literally exists to save lives.

People who spend their careers writing NIH grants are the literal opposite of grifters. It is a soul-sucking, brutal process. The scientists don’t get rich when they get funded. Their salary doesn’t change. They do it for science. For patients. You know, to make 🇺🇸healthy.
