Mooch had the nerve to try and take over the Airbnb and dictate how everyone should act. Nothing Misty is saying now surprises anyone who has watched Jessica Machado for any length of time. While others were calling out Misty’s behavior, Jess was quietly encouraging her, playing the victim, and feeding her just enough grievance to keep her protective and angry on Jess’s behalf. She understood exactly who Misty was and deliberately used that dynamic to get what she wanted. Her pattern has always been to stoke conflict when it serves her, then distance herself the moment it no longer does. The turning point came on the panel show, when Jessica’s own chat tried to support Misty. Funny how the loyalty expired the second the attention wasn’t all hers.

And she spent her stream today trying to get ahead of it by watching the whole thing with her chat to coddle her. The disparaging and disgusting comments and name-calling by she and her chat shows exactly how spot on Misty was. I was in Megan’s chat and was just listening to JM when she abruptly ended the stream and didn’t do her MO. Talk about coercive control!
If you want to better understand the new era of internet-based coercive control, I can't recommend this stream from @Itsraining2 enough. It feels like watching an episode of a doc about NXIVM or that one about the Mother God lady in Vermont.
The pattern of pulling in and weaponizing followers and then punishing and humiliating them for perceived slights is stark. Misty details the expectations of meticulous free labor, absolute loyalty, inundation with angry communications, and the stress of living an anger-fueled life walking on eggshells 24/7.
Misty's transformation into a peaceful and introspective person after breaking away is admirable. She understands she needs to take accountability for her own behavior and to heal, move on, and bring these lessons to her future community relationships. She is doing the work and it's wonderful to see.
For the record, it's THIS aspect of that channel and its "cultivated" community that drives to me to talk about it and poke fun to add some levity to the conversation. It's not just "drama," and it's not being a "mean girl" for the sake of clicks. The latter is a talking point designed to reinforce the imagined victimhood of the person at the center of the this, and a sexist talking point at that.
Those of us making content about this are exposing something in our corner of the internet that is actively harming people. I've seen the same patterns and spoken up frequently when toxic people emerged in the audio community. My long-time listeners will verify my career-long commitment to calling out bad actors and being inclusive and kind to anyone willing to spend even a few minutes of their week listening to my voice. It's important to also be kind to those who've decided I'm no longer for them.
Some of you also know that I've occasionally reached out to folks in that particular community who view me as an "enemy" when I've seen them suffering on public platforms. These are real people and they deserve some grace for being in the thrall of a person who has lifelong practice creating exactly these types of environments.
This is why I want you to watch Misty's stream. She was fully in. Part of a "team" of enforcers. The worst one of all sometimes. And now she's working to understand why she found herself there. It's deeply human.

Bottom line is @jessmachadoshow is the only person in the United States that the first amendment applies to. Everyone else is not allowed to say what they want to say at all especially if it’s about her. Only she can do that.

In December of last year Jess Machado explains in a detailed way, her step by step plan. Build the substack..strengthen the twitter account, start a youtube channel and get involved in drama so you get an audience to then get back to important content. What phase are we on currently?
