A national hero
Harry Kane’s emotional message to his wife Katie after winning the Ballon d’Or ❤️⚽
“To my lovely wife Katie, my best friend. You wanted me to win this award more than I did. We have been through so many ups and downs.
We did it. You always wanted what was best for me and you sacrificed your dreams for mine.
This would never have been possible without you.
I love you so much.”
What a moment. Proper class from the England captain and 2026 Ballon d’Or winner. 👏🏴
Lovely stuff ❤️❤️
I notice that Labour Ministers are increasingly referring to ‘The 10 year Plan’. Obviously that covers two more elections. I suspect a very upbeat document, full of hope and promises (including Europe) that will be used as a government sponsored next Labour Election Manifesto.
Did she vote to remove Winter Fuel Allowance from local pensioners?Did she vote to increase National Insurance on Aylesbury businesses? Did she vote to increase Inheritance tax on her farmers? Did she vote to remove local decision making on local planning? So ‘non partisan’

Our current MP has not put a foot wrong. Compare and contrast with Butler. She serves her people in a non partisan way and is an example to all of you who put party politics before people. @laurakyrkesmith
Exactly. We currently have 6 million Europeans under Right to Remain. Any future free, unlimited, migration would primarily be the millions of migrants who entered Europe illegally and legally from North Africa, Syria and sub Saharan Africa.
This is becoming very typical of Andy Burnham. Off the cuff comments. Challenge. Clarification. Apparent U-turn. Refuting by the No:10 machine. End result? Who knows?
NEW
There is some confusion over Andy Burnham's position on Brexit
Earlier this morning:
Reporter asks: "Will you allow the UK to join the EU freedom of movement without a referendum?"
Andy Burnham says: "No. And I wasn't saying that", adding that he would "never move ahead of the British public when it comes to Brexit".
11.30am Lobby briefing:
Number 10 will now not say whether the British public will get a referendum on rejoining EU freedom of movement.
A spokesman says: "The process will be set out in due course ... He wants to have an open debate about this.... there are no options on the table."
What do you think? More now on @GBNEWS.

The British people worked harder than any group in history to end the slave trade.
The idea that we should now pay "reparations" is absurd, and calling people "racist" to get them to shut up is disgusting.
Neil is absolutely right.
So much for not reopening this debate prior to an election (let alone accepting the result of the last Referendum). Sadly, we just can’t rely on ‘an honest conversation’ from Andy Burnham
Exclusive from @benclatworthy
Britain is holding talks with the EU about a potential return to free movement and other options for closer alignment
The Times has been told that the UK is discussing a series of options about the future relationship which are due to be unveiled within weeks
Andy Burnham plans to set out his vision for closer ties with the bloc, including the potential of rejoining the union, and have a “conversation with the British public about our long-term future”
The options that will be presented are being discussed with officials in Brussels to ensure both sides would ultimately be able to agree
One source said all such routes would be “discussed using diplomatic channels” before any “big bang” launch of the options on the table

Yep. And yet Labour trolls are still taking their lead from Burnham and repeating a discredited and disproven story
I think @afneil has already dealt with this lie when it was Starmer peddling it.
It’s almost as if his ‘honest conversation’ was a deliberate lie?
Almost everything Burnham says in this piece is a lie.
- We didn't get a "harder" Brexit than what was mentioned in the Referendum. We left with the most comprehensive trade agreement the EU has ever signed.
- The small boats crisis didn't emerge because of losing "returns agreements". While we were in the EU we were a net-, recipient of illegal immigrants from these agreements, the small boats crisis has emerged because of a global surge in illegal immigration and pull-factors like our human rights laws.
- Immigration within the EU was not "revolving door". It has been permanent, and significantly more than estimated at the time. Over 6 million people have come here on the EU Settlement scheme, double estimated.
The Prime Minister is dishonest and cynical, planning to hand border control to the EU, and likely pay them British taxpayers money while he's at it.
Excellent

I know it doesn't however standing on a ticket, promising the electorate a certain set of policies and then trying to implement something completely different is why the Tories are in a mess.
And pensions. Labour Defence spending contains much that is not actually about defending this country militarily
Labour is facing an investigation into claims it misled the public about defence spending.
Sir Ben Wallace, the former defence secretary, has accused the Government of artificially inflating the defence budget by including billions of pounds in intelligence spending

What an amazing story
🇦🇺 She survived the execution of her fellow nurses. Then, for three and a half years, her friends kept that survival a secret.
On February 16, 1942, Japanese soldiers ordered 22 Australian nurses into the sea at Radji Beach, on Bangka Island.
Two days earlier, the nurses had survived the sinking of the SS Vyner Brooke while fleeing Singapore.
Now machine guns opened fire behind them.
Vivian Bullwinkel, 26, was hit. She fell into the water and lay motionless until the soldiers left. Of the 22 nurses, she alone survived.
For 12 days, she hid with a wounded British soldier, tending him despite her own injury. Eventually, they surrendered. He died soon afterward.
In captivity, Vivian found other nurses who had survived the shipwreck. She told them what had happened on the beach.
They understood the danger: their captors must never discover that a witness to the massacre was still alive.
For the rest of their imprisonment, they never spoke of it.
Through hunger, disease, and years of captivity on Bangka and Sumatra, they protected her secret. Eight of the captured Australian nurses died before freedom came.
Vivian survived to testify at the Tokyo war crimes tribunal and spent decades honoring her murdered colleagues.
She died on July 3, 2000, aged 84.
During captivity, silence had helped protect her. Afterward, she made sure the world heard their story.

John Healey right to be cautious on raising minimum wage for the young…. UK now has one of the highest minimum wages in the world, as Tom Calver pointed out:-
thetimes.com/article/8b28c4c…
EXCLUSIVE
John Healey will announce plans to increase the minimum wage by nearly 4 per cent but slow the rise for young people after warnings that they are being priced out of jobs
The Times has been told that the national living wage, which applies to those aged 21 and over, is expected to rise from £12.71 to around £13.20 — an increase of 3.9 per cent
However, Healey has decided not to repeat the big rises of the past two budgets in the national minimum wage, which applies to those aged 18 to 21
It will rise broadly in line with the rate for older workers - from £10.85 to around £11.27, an increase of 3.9 per cent
It effectively spells the end of Labour’s manifesto pledge to bring the “discriminatory” minimum wage for young people into line with the living wage for older workers in this parliament
The minimum wage increased by 26 per cent between 2025 and 2026, leading to stark warnings from employers that it risked impeding efforts to get 1 million “Neets” - young people not in education, employment or training - into work.
Healey alluded to the approach in an interview with The Times last week, in which he spoke of the importance of the “trade-off between the level of the minimum wage and the employment rate”
