Moonquakes can ring for hours. A new preprint blames cracks.
Its model puts vacuum fractures in the top kilometer of crust, trapping seismic waves, and matches Apollo impact records. Filtering that ringing could help seismometers hear the deep interior.

ALT A close-up photo from the Apollo 14 landing site in February 1971 of the Passive Seismic Experiment, a squat cylindrical seismometer wrapped in crinkled silver thermal foil. It sits at the center of a wide, wrinkled sheet of reflective foil spread over the lunar soil, with a thin white post sticking up from its top. Dark gray, footprint-churned lunar soil fills the top of the frame.

Space jellyfish alert!
The USSF-432 rocket launch from California on November 4, 2026 at 5:14 PM PST could produce a space jellyfish. This occurs when a rocket and its expanding exhaust plumes are illuminated by the sun and observers are in local darkness.
NOTE: This launch has a 240-minute window; this forecast is for a 5:14 PM PST launch. A later liftoff will materially change this forecast.
The rocket will enter sunlight 00m53s after launch.

BREAKING: Elon Musk is reportedly reconsidering plans for Tesla and SpaceX to independently build and operate their $16.8 billion Terafab semiconductor facility, potentially reopening negotiations with Taiwan’s TSMC.
According to new reporting from DIGITIMES, citing semiconductor supply-chain sources, Musk has become more flexible about partnering with the world’s leading advanced chip manufacturer.
The development would mark a shift from his position in early October, when Musk insisted Tesla and SpaceX would build and operate Terafab themselves, with TSMC potentially leasing only part of the facility.
Terafab is intended to produce advanced semiconductors for AI computing, autonomous vehicles, robotics and SpaceX’s longer-term orbital computing ambitions.
Intel is also involved in the project, although how responsibilities would be divided under a potential TSMC partnership remains unclear.
No revised agreement has been confirmed.

Could artificial intelligence help us find extraterrestrial intelligence?
At the SETI Institute's Allen Telescope Array, researchers are exploring how agentic AI and @nvidia technology can help automate telescope operations, process enormous streams of radio data, and identify signals worth investigating.
The system has already demonstrated real-time AI detection of a pulsar in the Crab Nebula!
And here's an intriguing question: If extraterrestrial civilizations have developed artificial intelligence, could AI help us recognize theirs?
