This is an astonishing fact.
How big was the early vote for Dems? Cooper in NC, Talarico in TX and Ossoff in GA all had more EARLY votes than their opponents had in total, per @NBCNews decision desk. Put another way, they could have each received zero election day votes and still won.

I'm less impressed by how @ossoff speaks (though he's terrific at that too) and more impressed by what he says. This 2-minute clip is the best explanation of Trump corruption that I've ever heard. His explanation of the Russian dirty deals is so accurate and so clear. He knows the facts cold. And he explains them better than I can.
He has that Obama elocution.

There is much to celebrate this week, but I want to call specific attention to historic gains Democratic women made in representation: - For the first time in history, over 100 Democratic women will serve in the U.S. House. - At least 16 Democratic women will serve in the Senate. - At least 14 Democratic women will serve as governors, a record high. - A record of 2,600 Democratic women running for seats in state legislatures helped flip 12 majorities and break 11 supermajorities. - Four states elected their first woman governor: Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio, and Tennessee. - @KeishaBottoms will be the first Black woman to serve as a governor. - @DebHaalandNM will be the first Native American woman to serve as a governor. - @GinaHinojosaTX will be the first Latina to serve as governor of Texas. - @peggyflanagan will be the first Native American woman to serve in the Senate. I am beyond excited to see these extraordinary people and public servants tackle accountability, affordability, and our other challenges to make life better for everyone in this country. Congratulations to everyone who ran: win or lose, fighting for what's right is always worth it.

The Donald Trump era in American politics ended Tuesday. This was the most comprehensive repudiation of a U.S. political party since post-Watergate. There have been dark moments when I thought our nation was irretrievably lost. I was wrong. It feels like morning in America again.

It's been a good week for Putin. In recent days, Trump has: * Struck a diesel deal lifting some sanctions * Restricted Starshield for Ukraine * Cut intel warnings of Russian missile launches against Ukraine for several days * Canceled Lindsey Graham sanctions * Demanded Ukraine dump Zelensky * Absolved Russia for helping Iran fight the US * Pushed Europe to resume buying Russian gas

MAJOR BREAKING: Bloomberg reports that Trump’s CFTC officials were told to retract an insider-trading referral after suspicious trades were placed just 15 minutes before Trump reversed course on attacking Iranian power plants. Traders had bet roughly $580 MILLION on falling oil prices before Trump’s announcement sent prices plunging. According to Bloomberg, a senior adviser to the CFTC chairman intervened after analysts flagged the trades for investigation. I wonder who was doing the trades. I’m gonna go with Don Jr. or Eric Trump since they are covering it up.

The badly botched, attempted execution of #ChristaPike in #Tennessee yesterday rings a bell. I witnessed 10 federal executions by the same lethal drug, #pentobarbital, as a then-AP reporter during #DonaldTrump's first term, and I’m currently finishing a book about #Trump and the #deathpenalty. In half the executions I saw, inmates’ stomachs shook, shuddered and rolled after the pentobarbital injections _ possible signs of #PulmonaryEdema, a condition akin to drowning or waterboarding when fluids rush into airways. The drug was also supposed to kill in under 10 minutes. In practice, it often took at least twice as long. Inmates wouldn't suffer, Trump officials also said. But I saw at least one condemned prisoner, Cory Johnson, grimace and complain of an intense burning sensation immediately after he received his injection. Whether the dramatic rolling of prisoners' midsections caused them pain wasn't clear. Critics of its use, though, say pentobarbital can paralyze the body while condemned inmates are still conscious, making it impossible for them to convey that they are in pain. Pentobarbital, commonly used in euthanizing pets was, and still is considered experimental in #executions. But the U.S. government and many states reverted to it after pharmaceutical companies started barring the use of their drugs in executions, saying their products were designed to save lives, not to take them. Pike’s survival after two ostensibly #lethalinjections of pentobarbital once again demonstrates that killing fellow humans in a controlled environment, whether it’s by hanging or by electric chair or by pentobarbital is, at best, an inexact science. Secrecy, too, was a hallmark of the Trump executions, including about where the administration secured its pentobarbital or whether doses were beyond their expiration dates. That meant there was never a full public accounting of snafus behind closed doors in the pre-execution prep. Worse, executioners and their supervisors consistently misled courts about how the Trump executions were going. In statements to judges, they consistently omitted the disturbing jerking motions of inmates' stomachs that I and other media witnesses saw with our own eyes. (One government expert went on the record to say we didn't see what we saw.) As far as I can tell, the Trump executioners never conceded a single, notable error or oversight. (See attached article I wrote for the #AP at the time about the apparent deception by Trump executioners.) The current Trump administration is expected to try to execute the last few men still facing federal death sentences, including Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar #Tsarnaev. Despite the documented problems with pentobarbital, that's expected to be the drug of choice for a Round 2 of Trump executions. ap.org/news-highlights/best-…
