When the Lord afflicts, it is with great tenderness and compassion.
When he afflicts, it is not willingly, that is, not from any injustice or cruelty in his nature; no, infinitely far from it.
Afflictions proceed from his goodness; and they are ordered by perfect wisdom and the greatest tenderness.
Remember, my good friend, he spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all!

My 7-year-old son can’t watch sports with me anymore. Not because of the games, but because of the commercials.
The horror movie trailers are the worst. The terrifying imagery can send him into a spiral of anxiety that lasts well beyond the 30-second ad. These are images his young mind simply isn’t ready to process.
We talk a lot about mental health in this country, especially in sports. Yet between the relentless gambling ads, alcohol promotions and genuinely disturbing horror trailers, I’ve reached a point where watching an MLB or NFL game with my kids requires me to monitor every commercial break.
I love sports. I work in sports. Some of my favorite childhood memories were made watching games with my family. I want that for my sons.
I wish we could exercise better judgment about what we’re putting in front of families during sporting events.
Sports should bring generations together. Instead, I’m increasingly forced to treat game day like an adults-only event.
Something feels very wrong about that.

Amen, @gavinortlund! Gen Z is seeking rootedness, stability, and rigor. In a word: deep discipleship
More Bible. More Theology. More doctrine. More church history. Not less.
Lord, help us be faithful in this moment!

Shoutout to @AmericanAir Flight Attendant Brittany on AA4202 COS to DFW today -- She showed exception care, kindness, and positivity to all passengers today, including me! Let's show her some recognition and appreciation for going above and beyond @AmericanAir!
Last night I dreamt that I met and got to thank @jdgreear for writing "Jesus, Continued." Let's go ahead and make that official.
Thank you for that book, JD. Got to read it with some other college ministry friends earlier this year and it was helpful for us. Grateful for you!
😂 It’s absolutely this bad.🙈

Allowing the problem of evil to become the controlling question puts God, rather than sinners, on trial for the evil and suffering of the world. Soteriology becomes inverted. - Charles Helmer

“Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?” (Jer. 23:29)
I love this story.
Thanks @KnowingFaithPod for the recent overviews of classical books. It’s a great resource to help generate interest and excitement to read these works. @jenniferwilkin @jt_english @kyleworley
