Southwest Airlines debuts a special new livery aircraft in honor of America's 250th birthday: Independence One, registration N1776R. Perhaps most eye-catching: "Red, white, and blue paint scheme with 1776 written in giant quill script, and the key phrase, 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' from the Declaration of Independence and the three inalienable rights endowed to all humans," the airline says. Last night, a very special little dog named Kuzia passed away at the Дай лапу, друже (Give Me a Paw, Friend) animal shelter in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. I’m heartbroken, but I wanted to share his extraordinary story because I think he deserves to be remembered. Kuzia was rescued from a rubbish pit near Komyshuvakha, a town in Zaporizhzhia oblast devastated by the war. He had been shot three times, including in the head, and had lost an eye. When rescuers found him, they initially thought he was dead. Then he barked. Veterinarians believed he would never walk again. The bullets had caused severe neurological damage, and removing them was considered too dangerous. But Kuzia had an extraordinary will to live. Under the loving care of Irina Didur and the volunteers at the shelter, Kuzia slowly began to recover. After months of rehabilitation, he managed to stand. Then he learned to walk. Eventually, against all expectations, he could even run. Kuzia never fully recovered from his injuries. He lived with serious disabilities and required specialized food and ongoing veterinary treatment. But he refused to give up, and neither did the people who loved him. Over the years, his remarkable story touched people across Ukraine and beyond. Over the years many regularly contributed to his care and recovery. I was fortunate enough to be one of them. I had hoped to bring Kuzia home to Kyiv and give him a peaceful retirement, but his neurological condition made the stress of travel a serious concern. Sadly, I never got the opportunity to hold him in my arms. I often think about what life must be like for the hundreds of dogs at the shelter. However hard Irina and her volunteers work, there are simply too many animals and too few resources. Kuzia deserved a life of comfort, freedom, and love, as they all do. But I’ve come to believe that Kuzia’s life had a purpose far beyond his own survival. His courage and determination inspired people to open their hearts and their wallets. And I like to think that the generosity he inspired didn’t just help him, but also helped feed, shelter, and save other animals who had nowhere else to turn. In that sense, this little dog who had suffered so terribly may have helped save lives himself. The night before Kuzia passed, I prayed for his sweet little soul. I asked the spirits of all the animals I’ve loved and lost over the years to be there waiting for him, to welcome him and help him cross the Rainbow Bridge, so he wouldn’t have to make that journey alone. I want to thank Irina and everyone at Дай лапу, друже for everything they did for him. Their work, especially in a city living under the constant threat of war, is an extraordinary act of compassion. I’ll never forget what they did for Kuzia, and I’ll continue supporting their efforts to care for the hundreds of other animals who depend on them. Kuzia never knew how many people loved him, or how far away some of us were. He didn’t know how many hearts he touched or how much kindness he inspired. He was just a little dog who had been terribly hurt and somehow found the strength to keep living. But sometimes the smallest creatures leave the greatest impressions on our hearts. Rest peacefully, sweet Kuzia. You were a little angel, and I’ll never forget you. ❤️🐾🌈

Wonder what he thought the Ukrainians were doing in 2014 when he demonstrated his "flexibility" as Russia invaded Crimea.

Trumpers always say they're at war with communism. Then - without any hint of irony, historical literacy, or self-awareness - they'll cheer literal communist policies just because Trump endorses them. These people are extinction-level stupid.

If we are now allies of Russia and enemies of Ukraine, the President should say so and make it plain why he thinks this is in America's best interests and why national honor means so little to him.
NEW!! U.S. and Russian teams have discussed a sweeping slate of potential energy and commercial deals, including Russian diesel sales, Lukoil’s overseas assets and a possible revival of Nord Stream gas flows to Europe, two U.S. officials informed about the talks told me 1/2

Content of Tense Conversation Between Budanov and Trump's Team Revealed Negotiations between the Ukrainian delegation and Donald Trump's special envoys in Miami, as reported by Le Monde, escalated into a conflict. According to the publication, during a three-hour meeting at the Shell Bay golf club, Steve Witkoff "with irritation" demanded that Kyrylo Budanov, head of Zelenskyy's office, cease strikes on Russian oil refineries. Budanov, per Le Monde's information, "barely contained his anger" and felt that he was being "treated like a child, trying to teach him how to make money." The Americans presented an ambitious plan for postwar "regional prosperity," which envisioned resuming the transit of Russian oil and gas to Europe through Ukraine, with dividends paid to Kyiv. Budanov was outraged that such a deal would tie Ukraine to Moscow, after which the negotiations broke off. When the meeting resumed, the Americans proposed accepting a deal for supplies of Russian diesel to the United States. The publication's sources noted that they had never seen Ukrainians "so upset and alarmed." Zelenskyy's entourage described the situation as "hopeless," since Trump's envoys "think only about business." 📸: Press service of the President of Ukraine

The ceasefire in Oleshky just shows how easily Russia could stop this war, immediately, if they so desired. One decision, one order for Russian troops to return to their bases in Russia, and everyone immediately stops dying.
❗️30 hours of the ceasefire in Oleshky have passed without a single incident. This has been made possible, in particular, by ongoing communication between me and Yana Lantratova, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights. We remain in contact and coordinate efforts to implement the agreements reached. I would like to express my special gratitude to First Lady of the United States Melania Trump (@FLOTUS), who is personally dedicating her time and attention to this humanitarian mission and to helping civilians in Oleshky. Her direct involvement and coordination of efforts between the parties are an important part of this process. ☝️I also thank her entire team for their consistent support, ongoing communication, and every effort they have made. Our shared goal is to ensure that civilians in Oleshky receive assistance and to create the conditions for the safe departure of those who need it. We continue our work. What matters most is people’s lives and safety.

The Trumps & their ass roaches are very frustrated with Ukraine's petty "survival" & "liberty" bullshit getting in the way of important business of rimming Putin for a shiny penny. Grimly funny: the biggest issue this admin has with Kyiv is that Ukraine isn't corrupt enough.
According to Le Monde, citing sources, U.S. special envoy Witkoff held a tense meeting in Florida on October 9 with Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office. Sources claimed that Witkoff spoke to Budanov “like a child,” trying to “teach” him how to make money. Witkoff proposed a postwar “regional prosperity plan” that included fully restoring Russian oil and gas transit to Europe through Ukrainian territory. Witkoff argued that Ukraine would earn transit revenues while Europe would benefit from lower energy costs. Budanov reportedly replied that Ukraine’s model is “not Belarus, but Poland,” then stepped out to call President Zelenskyy, who advised him not to show any reaction. When the talks resumed, the Ukrainian side was shown a document outlining a U.S.-Russia diesel deal. An irritated Witkoff reportedly said: “Accept this diesel deal and stop striking Russian oil refineries — you are putting the world at risk!” Ukrainian participants were described as shocked, viewing the plan as creating dependency on Moscow and noting that the United States appeared to have secured nothing in return from Putin. A source close to the delegation told Le Monde: “I have never seen the Ukrainians so stunned and alarmed after a meeting.” Analysts contrasted the episode with the February 28, 2025 Oval Office incident, saying this one involves concrete policy decisions that could affect Ukraine’s ability to defend itself ahead of a potentially harsh winter. lemonde.fr/international/art…

Witkoff should be doing ZERO foreign policy for the U.S. ZERO.
The arrogant treatment from Witkoff toward the Ukrainian representatives illustrates an overarching part of current US foreign policy: The US now fixates on small-bore, opportunistic, transactional business "deals" and foolishly dismisses large-scale traditional geopolitical considerations such as defending national sovereignty and promoting overall European security This factor explains why the US government is absurdly hostile to EU and NATO members, seeing them not as allies (geopolitical) but as economic competitors and freeloaders (small-bore, transactional) who get in the way of opportunistic deals with Putin's Russia. Putin, of course, uses this dynamic to finagle the US and sow further discord in Europe

Now do you understand why the Ukrainians don’t want to give up any territory to Russia? Giving up land = Surrendering part of the population to this kind of torture indefinitely.
"Within days, Russian soldiers poisoned their dog, an Alabai, along with all the other large dogs in Oleshky. They killed Liudmila’s nextdoor neighbor and raped his wife. A local butcher disappeared; no one knew whether he was also killed. Some neighbors were detained and beaten. Armed, masked soldiers searched Liudmila’s home three times, confiscating the couple’s Ukrainian passports and leaving them with no documents. And yet, Liudmila and Andriy stayed. They got a new puppy, also an Alabai. Russian troops started to move into civilian houses, parking tanks in what once were gardens."

The russo-american "humanitarian mission" to rescue Ukrainians trapped in Oleshki (most of which were already deported to russia) is becoming obvious now. The russians are using the ceasefire to reinforce positions in preparation for assault operations in November. 🇺🇸🫶🇷🇺
