Here is a look at where the growing season and Frost/Freeze program is active vs. inactive across our area. The red shaded areas have experienced a widespread freeze. Much of the green shaded area has experienced frost, but not a freeze, and thus the growing season continues.

U.S. embassy begins ordered departure of non-emergency personnel in Saudi Arabia and families due to safety risks
Security Alert: U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia (October 25, 2026)
Effective October 23, 2026, the Department of State ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees and U.S. government employee family members to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks.
Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area.
U.S. government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization from Chief of Mission to use any airport in Saudi Arabia following recent missile and UAV attacks on airports in the Kingdom.
King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh announced a partial reopening as of October 25 for domestic flights and some international flights operated by national carriers. A limited number of flights normally based at RUH are operating out of Qassim-based Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ELQ).
Operations at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (JED) are operational with some delays and cancellations.
Operations at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam (DMM) are operational with some delays and cancellations.
U.S. citizens should be aware of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions. Please take extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia. We recommend checking your flight departure status directly with the airline and with the airport.

Iran is losing land trade routes to American pressure, as both Iraq and Pakistan shut key border crossings:
"The Pakistani closures have stranded more than 4,500 metric tons of bottled gas—one of Tehran's last energy exports—on the Iranian side of the border."
It has other borders, but they were already struggling to deal with higher volume: last month there were 17,000 trucks waiting to cross, with delays stretching up to three weeks wsj.com/world/middle-east/ir…

The U.S. is deploying another amphibious assault ship carrying Marines to the Middle East, expanding Trump's options for potential territorial seizures. With an additional carrier strike group and Marine expeditionary unit arriving, the U.S. will have over 24 Navy ships in the region, a Navy official says. - WSJ

“The president has been briefed on a series of options prepared by the Pentagon, officials said. The plans range from striking nuclear facilities and infrastructure, such as bridges, to conducting assaults on islands controlled by Iran, according to some of the officials.”

Reporting and recent comments suggest that new US strikes will not aim to simply degrade Iran's capabilities or reduce their position in the strait (i.e. what the US attempted with strikes in July/August).
Rather, there is a body of opinion inside the admin that another round of strikes would "finish off" Iran, pushing it to the point where it will capitulate to US demands, agree to a deal that favored the US, allowing the war to end with US victory.
One can dispute the validity of this position. But it seems to be what is informing US thinking.

BREAKING: Washington has alerted Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi to a potential strike on Iran, prompting al-Zaidi to warn domestic armed groups against any intervention, reports Iraqi Kurdistan's Channel 8.
This warning comes amid an ongoing impasse as major factions, including the Nujaba Movement and Kata'ib Hezbollah, remain unwilling to surrender their weapons.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump administration sues to block Alaska Senate race certification if Republican loses, citing candidate name confusion.
Sure, U.S. midterm results look bearish for GOP, and bearish too for a Congress that will wind down the Iran War. History strongly suggests the war will end when the president gives up on it.
One Israel election prediction: nobody wins. Israeli Arabs can't supply votes because of the West Bank crackdown that Eisenkot can't end. We're stuck re-running it again in three months.

Yes, Iran's exports are drying up. But revenue could still trickle in for months because of generous credit terms.
In any case, some Iranian oil is bartered for imports, meaning the economic pain may be indirect or delayed or conditioned on whether imports can be arranged.

This is wild: The Iran war has driven the cost of chartering an oil tanker from the US to China upwards of $79.6 million. This voyage averaged under $8 million before the war.
For comparison's sake, launching a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket into orbit costs $74 million!
"As it stands, leasing the largest class of crude carriers for the 30-day voyage is equivalent to half the cost of building a brand-new vessel." bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
