I had a great conversation with the UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham, and we are grateful to Britain for its unwavering, strong, and truly leading support. Today, Britain made a strong decision to provide an additional £10 billion in financial support – £7 billion in economic support over the next three years, and another £3 billion in British export support, primarily for the supply of much-needed weapons that will strengthen our protection of lives. This is on top of the annual support Britain already provides to Ukraine. A truly strong and very timely step – coming right as Russia needs to see and feel that Ukraine will not be left alone to deal with the problems Russia is so eager to escalate. Every step to strengthen Ukraine brings Russia closer to realizing that it must end this war of its own making. Of course, Andy and I also discussed sanctions policy, and Britain will remain principled on this – setting an example that matters globally. I am grateful to Britain, to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his team, and to every person around the world who understands that standing with Ukraine is the right thing to do – that it means being on the right side of history. 🇺🇦🇬🇧

Now time for Crossrail 2
Exclusive John Healey is about to hand powers to London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan that allow him to give the Bakerloo Line the green light. Healey also set to refer to Stratford station as an “international” hub, which means cross-Channel trains from East London.

Fair play - probably needs more than this to break the backlog and councils will have to be ambitious about spending this so it doesn't all go into housing associations.
Healey announces what he says is an extra £1.5bn for council and social housing

Israeli Exit Polls show Netanyahu's been defeated. Israel has rejected his dark vision, forever war & cruel, dystopic, authoritarian policies. But to succeed, the anti Netanyahu block needs to work with the Israeli Arab parties. I dearly hope this great chance isn't wasted

Schools should be places of learning, belonging and opportunity, never fear. Antisemitism has no place in our society. @libdems welcome the Bell Review and accept all its recommendations to help ensure every child feels safe and supported at school.

The Chancellor will announce greater investment in big, shiny capital defence projects in tomorrow’s budget - jets, ships, high tech assets - to be delivered in 2030 or beyond. While day-to-day spending on our current armed forces will continue to flatline. This is a serious problem that will leave Britain completely exposed in a real conflict with Russia before 2030. We need a strategy for a real war-time scenario. Not a shopping list. We must be prepared of THE war that is coming not just A war. A 🧵

Kristen McDonald Rivet is the badass leader we need back in Congress to end the chaos and work to lower costs for Michiganders. In 7 days, let’s send her back to D.C. to keep fighting for Michigan. 👏 @McdonaldRivet

This would be a gross betrayal of former miners across Wales and the UK, including those in my own constituency! These miners worked hard all their lives. Many are now elderly and in poor health. They deserve to receive the pensions they were promised before it is too late.
EXC: Ministers poised to break promise to former miners over £1.2bn pension fund Labour MPs tell me they are ‘furious’ and ‘very disappointed’ about the last-minute decision They are now making urgent representations to No 10, Treasury and whips ahead of tomorrow’s Budget politicshome.com/news/articl…
