The Chancellor has handed another year to Putin by deferring decisions to increase defence spending in today's budget.
The Government says we should prepare for war with Russia in three years, but is totally comfortable wasting one of those years standing still as it defers increasing defence spending until the next Spending Review.
By then it will be 18 months since the Chancellor resigned as Defence Secretary over the Government’s failure to reach 3% of GDP.
The Chancellor must set out a costed pathway for defence spending to reach 3% of GDP by 2030 in today's budget.
Anything less would be a dereliction of duty. Putin is watching.

Absolutely right. Rachel Reeves tried low headroom in her first budget. She found that means if ANYTHING moves against you, the rest of year is about what taxes you will raise. That uncertainty hits consumer and business confidence, slows economic growth and makes us poorer. 1/2
Replying to @resfoundation
He has done small relatively sensible tax rises. Tick. But headroom has fallen to £15 billion which is smaller than the average move between forecasts. So he doesn’t have enough to survive one bad roll of the dice.

I had a great conversation with the UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham, and we are grateful to Britain for its unwavering, strong, and truly leading support. Today, Britain made a strong decision to provide an additional £10 billion in financial support – £7 billion in economic support over the next three years, and another £3 billion in British export support, primarily for the supply of much-needed weapons that will strengthen our protection of lives. This is on top of the annual support Britain already provides to Ukraine.
A truly strong and very timely step – coming right as Russia needs to see and feel that Ukraine will not be left alone to deal with the problems Russia is so eager to escalate. Every step to strengthen Ukraine brings Russia closer to realizing that it must end this war of its own making.
Of course, Andy and I also discussed sanctions policy, and Britain will remain principled on this – setting an example that matters globally.
I am grateful to Britain, to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his team, and to every person around the world who understands that standing with Ukraine is the right thing to do – that it means being on the right side of history.

Israeli Exit Polls show Netanyahu's been defeated.
Israel has rejected his dark vision, forever war & cruel, dystopic, authoritarian policies.
But to succeed, the anti Netanyahu block needs to work with the Israeli Arab parties.
I dearly hope this great chance isn't wasted

Schools should be places of learning, belonging and opportunity, never fear. Antisemitism has no place in our society. @libdems welcome the Bell Review and accept all its recommendations to help ensure every child feels safe and supported at school.

The Chancellor will announce greater investment in big, shiny capital defence projects in tomorrow’s budget - jets, ships, high tech assets - to be delivered in 2030 or beyond.
While day-to-day spending on our current armed forces will continue to flatline.
This is a serious problem that will leave Britain completely exposed in a real conflict with Russia before 2030.
We need a strategy for a real war-time scenario. Not a shopping list.
We must be prepared of THE war that is coming not just A war.

This would be a gross betrayal of former miners across Wales and the UK, including those in my own constituency!
These miners worked hard all their lives. Many are now elderly and in poor health. They deserve to receive the pensions they were promised before it is too late.
