Poundland was born on a market stall in Bilston and grew into a national household name. Its HQ is still here in the Black Country.
The current owners need to explain why they have rejected an offer and are, instead, pursuing putting the company into administration.
Our high streets need businesses with owners who want to invest, grow and back the communities they serve - communities who supported their businesses as they grew.
The livelihoods of 12,000 workers nationally are on the line. As Mayor, I’ll do whatever I can to support those employees through what is undoubtably a worrying time.

May those who live, work or holiday on top of this have nightmares about what lies beneath them. May they imagine the cries of the dying and may it keep them awake at night.

🚨 Israeli strike destroys Gaza school educating 350 children
An overnight Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Saftawi area of Jabaliya, northern Gaza, destroyed the nearby Al-Zahraa makeshift tent school, which provided free education to approximately 350 children, as well as the Little Smile Kindergarten. The strike also damaged a camp sheltering displaced Palestinian families.
“All the desks and educational tents were destroyed. Even the stationery we had for students and teachers was ruined,” Mousa Zaqout, a teacher, told Drop Site’s Abdel Qader Sabbah. He said the volunteer-run school provided free education to children from the camp and surrounding areas.
“There is no ceasefire or anything like that on the ground,” Zaqout added. “Every hour, every moment, there is bombing and destruction.”
Gaza’s Ministry of Education condemned the destruction of the two educational facilities, describing Israel’s continued targeting of schools as part of a systematic destruction of education in Gaza.

I'm 40 years old, and graduated from university in the summer of 2008. Throughout my entire adult life the prevailing narrative has been about cuts, "painful" years, and ever-increasing inequality.
And mainstream politicians wonder why people are so angry.

The latest footage from Gaza.
It wasn't just Israel who did this.
The West did this.
We will never scrub the shame away.

The BoD has zero credibility, even less than you.
Any organisation weaponising and conflating zionism and their support for a genocidal state with antisemitism, is embracing ethno supremacy, apartheid, ethnic cleansing and illegal occupation.
Palestinians are so dehumanized that this is still called a “ceasefire.”

I can hardly imagine anyone who hasn’t seen this photograph. But it was taken on this day in 2000.
I cannot believe the photo is 26 years old now.
The boy in the photograph was Fares Odeh. He was just 14 years old.
Ten days after this image was captured, Fares went out again to throw stones at Israeli tanks, seeking to avenge the killing of his 17-year-old cousin.
An Israeli sniper shot him in the neck, killing him.
And there is another chilling detail to this photograph.
The photo changed Israeli tank doctrine. In August 2001, The Jerusalem Post quoted an anonymous tank doctrinist saying tank personnel were now instructed to fire upon rock-throwers.

Billy Allison from Raise the Colours is currently standing trial at Stafford Crown Court over the death of pub landlord Matthew O’Gara.
The court heard that Allison had been drinking heavily and taking cocaine earlier.
The prosecutor stated that Allison delivered the fatal blow with the "stance and skill of an experienced fighter" during a "completely unprovoked and senseless attack". The court also heard that the force of the punch was so great that it could be heard over the bar’s DJ sound system.
New footage has been released showing Billy Allison arriving at the Lichfield bar with Ryan Bridge.
