Czech Linguist Bedřich Hrozný managed to translate a sentence from Hittite for the first time and to identify that language as an Indo-European language just by using his knowledge of German and Latin.
I've been interested in Indo-European studies since high school but I don't think I was ready for Hittite verbs to have quite a bit in common with German and a similar aspect system to Russian.

This is exactly why we need mandatory data visualization courses in schools.
This is exactly why we need a state level electoral college system. No more having a couple largely populated areas overrun small communities with zero voice. The issues we faced when creating the Const with states disparities, we are now seeing internally at a state level.

👀 The next United States Senator from MISSISSIPPI:
Let me be clear: I will never take a penny from AIPAC or Super PACs that don’t put Mississippi and America first. This Senate seat belongs to the people of Mississippi. That’s who I’ll answer to.

🛢️ "We control the straits. We're doing more oil right now going through the straits than we did before the war started," President Donald Trump said Thursday in the Oval Office. Kpler data backs him up on recent days. Gulf and Gulf of Oman exports, not counting Iran, topped 25 million barrels on Nov. 1 and about 23 million on Nov. 2, above the pre-war average of roughly 20.5 million. Over a full week, flows are still slightly below pre-war levels. The seven-day average peaked around 18 million in early November.

Hungary will phase out Russian natural gas by autumn 2027, Foreign Minister Anita Orban said in an interview with Telex, citing the EU deadline. On Russian oil, she said Hungarian energy company MOL is working to modernize its refineries so they can switch to non-Russian supplies delivered through Croatia’s JANAF pipeline if necessary.

Paraguay's corrupt right-wing President Santiago Peña was a close US ally. He oversaw the creation of a digital bank called Ueno Bank, which his government heavily promoted. Two-thirds of Paraguayans used the bank. It turned out to be a massive scheme. The bank gave out many fraudulent loans and is probably insolvent. When this scandal was exposed, the bank froze access to customer funds, paralyzing the country's economy. Peña resigned mere minutes before lawmakers voted to impeach him. Arrest orders have been issued for the bank executives.

Eisenkot has the first mandate and will get the chance to form a government first, but the numbers behind his 67 show why he got it and why it will be hard to turn into a government. 1) The 67 splits into 48 from Zionist parties and 19 from Ra'am and the Joint List. Netanyahu has 46, or 53 with UTJ. Neither side has a Zionist-only majority, and Eisenkot is further from one. 2) Even with UTJ, Eisenkot's Zionist parties reach only 55. He can't get to 61 without the Arab lists unless Shas moves too. That explains why his camp talks about the Haredi parties, plural. 3) His four conditions keep Ra'am and the Joint List out of the coalition but leave room for their outside support. It is the 2021 Bennett-Lapid model, with the Arab parties outside the cabinet instead of inside it. 4) The universal service condition blocks the Haredi path. If he softens it, Likud says he dropped a condition. If he keeps it, UTJ stays out. Regev is already making that charge. 5) Taking the Knesset first is his strongest move. The Speaker controls the agenda, the votes and the committees, so Netanyahu gains less by running out the clock. 6) The Speaker vote needs 61, and he has 48 without the Arab lists. That first vote will show publicly who his majority depends on. The bloc still hasn't agreed on a candidate. 7) Netanyahu stays prime minister through every failed round. Likud's goal is to split the 48 by appealing to Bennett and Liberman, not to win Arab votes. 8) Eisenkot's pledge to back military action only against "direct and immediate threats" raises the cost of Netanyahu opening a new front during the caretaker period. 9) Yashar! is using the US aid cutoff to argue that repairing ties with Washington requires a new government. That also justifies the "emergency" label. Herzog controls the timing and the extension, and he is still pressing for power-sharing. If he leans toward a rotation, a narrow Eisenkot government becomes one option rather than the expected outcome. Eisenkot is running two strategies at once. Taking the Knesset needs Arab votes in the open. Courting the Haredim needs him to say he doesn't rely on them. Both can work for a few weeks, but not past the first vote that requires 61. It looks like the best he can hope for is to block Netanyahu from forming a government and impose another election.

"[T]he massive Democratic victory dilutes the power of the anti-Israel lawmakers in Congress," the Jewish Telegraphic Agency writes. This is blatant, naked subversion of the popular will in service of a foreign power. Eighty percent of Democrats have a negative view of Israel!
Democrats' margins are so large that it will deny Israel-critical lawmakers leverage over the AIPAC-owned leaders of the Democratic Party, according to Jewish Insider's Josh Kraushaar. "There was a worry that if Democrats only had a narrow majority, Hakeem Jeffries would be held hostage to this dozen or so Squad-like block of virulently anti-Israel, outspokenly socialist members of Congress that got elected in these very deep blue districts," Kraushaar tells David Zalik of the pro-Israel IF NOT US podcast. "Now the margin is so large that they're not going to have the same leverage and the same power that they could have if it was a much closer margin." "So paradoxically, the bigger the wave, the more decisive the victory for Democrats, means there are a lot more Democrats representing conservative-minded areas where extremism does not sell." Are Democrats going to accept being ruled by AIPAC Shakur and Chuck "My Job is to Keep the Left Pro-Israel" Schumer?
