Israeli security forces have detained prominent Palestinian journalist Abd Abu Shehadeh as far-right figures ramp up threats against Arab politicians following their record gains in last week's general election.
Abu Shehadeh, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, was seized from his home in Jaffa in a midnight raid by the security officers, according to Arab48.
Family members told the news outlet that 15 masked men stormed his house overnight, arresting him in front of his two children, and seizing his laptop and several books.
They said that the raid took place without a court order and that they were threatened with arrest when they asked about it.
Police refused to tell Abu Shehadeh's family of his whereabouts. His attorney later found out he was being held at a Shin Bet intelligence facility in the city of Petah Tikva.
His detention has since been extended until Sunday.
Abu Shehadeh has written for and published with The New Arab. He is head of the Elected Islamic Committee in Jaffa and a member of the editorial board of the website Arab48, where he also directs the podcast department. He hosts the podcast Al-Midan and is a regular analyst on the programme Inside the Box.

Iliana Yotova ran on dialogue with Moscow and against more aid for Ukraine, and she won the runoff roughly 58% to 39 against the pro NATO, pro EU candidate (parallel counts, official count still coming in). He's already conceded.
Within a couple of hours von der Liar @vonderleyen was on X congratulating her and talking up "energy independence" and "a strong Bulgaria in a strong Europe".
Funny how that works. In Romania in December 2024 the man who topped the first round got the whole election annulled. 58 to 39 is a bit harder to annul I reckon...
The Western client media will file it under "pro-Russian". Radev called it something else: "They chose peace, stability, they chose normality."
Voter turnout was under 30%. Seven in ten Bulgarians are so fed up with the system they stayed home, and the ones who did turn up still voted for the peace candidate.

But this isn't an Auchtertool problem - it's a Scottish one.
The proposed data centre would need roughly half the power currently used by every home in Scotland combined. Who is paying to build all that extra capacity?
It would also swallow huge amounts of water, and take much-needed farming land out of the food chain, which we all rely on.
And to be clear - this isn't about being "anti-Al". A data centre like this powers the everyday: your photo storage, your online shopping, and yes, Al too. The question isn't whether we need infrastructure. It's how we build it safely, and sustainably. And how the people of Scotland benefit from it.
At this scale, the only obvious winner is the developer. It's not obvious what the tangible benefits are for the people of Scotland.

At the start of the war with Iran, you were cheering from the sidelines, celebrating that the US and Israel were doing the "dirty work" through their reckless decision to attack Iran.

🇩🇪 New Wave of Protests in Germany: Young People Take to the Streets in 30 Cities
Protests by young Germans have begun in more than 30 cities across the country, including Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt, and Stuttgart.
The "Gen Z regelt" (Gen Z takes control) group, which called for these protests, announced that it expects approximately 160,000 people to participate nationwide.
In Berlin, protesters have gathered at the Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of the city, and it is estimated that more than 10,000 people will participate in the demonstrations in the city.
