I’m eager to see more of these additional Rural Health Care Transformation Fund resources put to work in Mississippi to strengthen the rural healthcare workforce and expand access to psychiatric emergency services. Improving the availability and quality of healthcare for rural communities in Mississippi and across the nation is critical, and I will keep working to ensure Mississippians have increased access to quality care, no matter where they live.

The Rural Health Transformation Fund continues to transform hospital services and patient care across Mississippi. Through the program, we are improving patient outcomes by recruiting, educating, and training a highly skilled health care workforce.
Today, I announced 60 Rural Health Transformation Program awards totaling more than $32.6 million.
These investments will help Mississippi train, recruit and retain the health care professionals our rural communities need and help close gaps in mental health care by strengthening our state’s Psychiatric Emergency Services.
We set out to transform health care across our state, and that’s what we’re doing. These investments will help Mississippi families get the care they deserve closer to home and strengthen health care for generations to come.
Thank you to President Trump, Secretary Kennedy and Administrator Oz for their partnership in improving health care for Mississippi and her people.
It’s another great day for Mississippi!

NEWS: 19 FORMER ECONOMIC AND NATIONAL SECURITY LEADERS ENDORSE THE BIPARTISAN PERMITTING REFORM BILL
Today, a group of former Cabinet members and White House principals across seven Democratic and Republican administrations sent a letter calling on Congress to pass BAAJA. Here are the signatories:
Janet YELLEN, Michael R. POMPEO, Steven T. MNUCHIN, Leon E. PANETTA, Timothy F. GEITHNER, Henry M. PAULSON, Jr., Robert E. RUBIN, Stephen MIRAN, Jared BERNSTEIN, Tyler GOODSPEED, Jason FURMAN, Glenn HUBBARD, Laura D’Andrea TYSON, Michael J. BOSKIN, Jeffrey ZIENTS, Jake SULLIVAN, Brian DEESE, Larry KUDLOW, Allan B. HUBBARD
Key highlights from the letter:
1. “We are not building infrastructure fast enough to remain globally competitive… The median time for a new power plant to move from an interconnection request to commercial operation has more than doubled, from less than two years for projects built between 2000 and 2007 to more than four years for projects built between 2018 and 2024.
2. China has built more high-voltage transmission in the last fifteen years than the U.S. has built in all of its history... In 2024, China accounted for 31.5% of global knowledge- and technology-intensive manufacturing value added, compared with 20.7% for the United States.
3. Federally funded or permitted projects require NEPA review, but private projects often do not, creating a threat of failure precisely where the government is trying to be proactive, strategic, and engaged.
4. A project that spends years awaiting approval must continue carrying development and financing costs while remaining exposed to rising input costs. The IEA reports that prices for utility-scale transformers increased 26% in 2024, while lead times for some transformers have stretched as long as six years.
5. Mining projects also face tremendous uncertainty: a 2026 study by researchers at the Colorado School of Mines found that permitting for modern mining projects takes an average of 5.5 years, rising to 8.9 years for contested projects. The U.S. currently has the second-longest mine development timeline in the world.
6. The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act is the most significant bipartisan legislative effort that Congress has undertaken in decades to tackle these challenges.
7. BAAJA addresses key constraints stifling American industry by requiring interregional transmission planning, strengthening the federal backstop for nationally significant transmission lines, and creating a faster, more predictable process for connecting new generation to the grid.
8. BAAJA also makes permits more durable by imposing tighter timelines for litigation and limiting frivolous lawsuits that can halt projects indefinitely, while preserving community input and judicial review of substantive agency decisions.”
The letter was organized by @arnabdatta321 on behalf of @IFP and covered exclusively by the WSJ this morning.

"BAAJA represents substantial positive reforms to our permitting system, maintaining high environmental standards while providing clear rules for getting energy infrastructure built. BAAJA would help significantly increase clean energy deployment and expands our transmission network to deliver new, affordable, reliable electricity to the homes and businesses that rely on it."
Thank you to the leaders at @ACORE, @AdvEnergyUnited, @USCleanPower, @CEBAPower, & @SEIA for your support for these desperately-needed bipartisan reforms.

President Trump has secured the border, and this caravan will be stopped.
Tragically, such caravans are often rife with human trafficking and horrific violence against women and children.
This is why I introduced the Stopping Border Surges Act, which would permanently close loopholes that allowed non-parents to claim an unrelated child as their own and let Joe Biden “lose” tens of thousands of children in our country. It would also remove incentives for parents to bring children with them on the hazardous journey to our borders.
For decades, media, politicians, and institutions tacitly encouraged such desperate attempts to march to the United States, only succeeding in increasing human misery at the expense of American border security.
Never again.

This is incredible news!
I fought every day to protect Floridians from deadly fentanyl as Attorney General, and am continuing the fight for a Fentanyl Free America in the Senate.
I’ve introduced the PRESS Act and the Prosecuting Poison Pill Dealers Act. And I’m championing several other bills like Tyler’s Law, the No Fentanyl on Social Media Act, and the Fight Illicit Pill Presses Act alongside my colleagues.
In 2023, fentanyl killed nearly 5,000 Floridians. By 2025, the death toll from fentanyl had fallen to 2,000.
Florida’s State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (S.A.F.E.) grant program has supercharged law enforcement capacity to keep our communities safe from deadly illicit drugs. We have strengthened drug interdiction efforts, supported law enforcement operations to dismantle cartel-linked trafficking syndicates, and increased access to life-saving tools like naloxone for first responders.
In addition to the 60% decline in fentanyl overdose deaths, the latest Florida Medical Examiners Commission report found that deaths caused by fentanyl analogs have declined by over 50%. The data also show broader declines in all drug-related deaths over the past year.
We will continue supporting law enforcement and remain committed to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of Floridians.
