As the #DRC catches global attention due to #M23, its other crises continue to be overlooked, including attacks on the #Banyamulenge. My blog series from June unpacks narratives on this complex crisis that overlook/downplay the Banyamulenge perspective. genocidewatch.com/single-pos…

Tonight @channel4news: the sudden entry of @Lana_Nusseibeh of the UAE into the race to be UN Secretary General. Human Rights campaigners say she's tried to block scrutiny of UAE's role supporting the RSF which has committed atrocities in #Sudan. But does she have momentum?

The level of sexual violence in the Sudan conflict is absolutely unspeakable. Every time someone tries to sell Lana Nusseibeh’s UNSG candidacy as a win for feminism, I think about the women and girls who have been gang raped by UAE-supported forces. news.un.org/en/story/2026/06…

Lana Nusseibeh has a long record of whitewashing UAE rights abuses in Sudan & Yemen: As permanent representative to the UN, Nusseibeh repeatedly defended the UAE's actions in Yemen while dismissing evidence of widely documented abuses. hrw.org/news/2026/10/28/uae-…

I still don’t understand how countries can back for UN Secretary-General a candidate who for years has been complicit in mass murder and mass rape in Sudan — even if she now insists that she will solve the crisis she is partly responsible for.

Meanwhile, the UAE, which backs the RSF, the militia that carried out these atrocities, is pushing its own candidate for #UNSecretaryGeneral. Will Britain block @Lana_Nusseibeh? If not why not?
The world cannot ignore what is happening in Sudan. One year on from the mass atrocities in El Fasher, the UK is sanctioning those linked to these and other atrocities, and strengthening support for survivors and communities at risk of famine.

Perhaps the UAE's candidate for UN Secretary-General Lana Nusseibeh "could begin by explaining why her own government has been repeatedly implicated in helping fuel the genocidal catastrophe in Sudan." My latest piece for Zeteo on a big scandal at the UN: zeteo.com/p/the-uae-helped-f…

There is something very concrete you can do at this juncture for #Sudan, @Ed_Miliband. Veto the candidacy for UNSG of the individual who has done as much as anyone to protect the perpetrators of El Fasher: Lana Nussibeih.

Here is a great reminder of all the things that have NOT happened since El Fasher fell to the RSF: No new sanctions on Hemedti, not sanctions against UAE, no enforcement of existing arms embargo. hrw.org/news/2026/10/26/suda…

Miliband: ‘the UK is sanctioning those linked to these and other atrocities’ in Sudan. Also Miliband: we are considering supporting an apologist for the UAE, which sponsors the perpetrators, to lead the United Nations.

One way to "strengthen support for atrocity survivors" in Sudan would be to block the main government backer of the El Fasher slaughter from installing the next UN Secretary General. Will the UK exercise its P5 power to do so?
