But wait, there's a new episode of Game of Thrones and Endgame is still in cinemas... and there's also a royal baby too. And Trump. Don't worry about this at all. Not at all.

When people talk about that "old-school theatre" acting vibe, what they really mean is that these performers learned their trade the hard way, treading the boards night after night in repertory companies.
Actors such as Patrick Stewart and Brian Blessed both came out of working-class Yorkshire families - Stewart the son of a textile worker, Blessed of a coal miner - while others like Anthony Hopkins, from a baker's household in industrial Port Talbot, Albert Finney from a northern working-class background, and Ian McKellen - despite going to Cambridge - from the mill towns of Lancashire, spent years in regional rep theatres taking on every kind of role and refining their craft under real pressure before anything like fame arrived.
For many of them the Royal Shakespeare Company then offered a further proving ground, giving them major classical stages on which to display the authority and technical command they had already built up over years of weekly rep. That long, grounded apprenticeship is what produced the presence that later carried so well into both London West End theatre, television, and film.
It stands in sharp contrast to so many of today's instant stars, who tend to come from more comfortable middle-class backgrounds, leave drama school, and move almost straight into television or film stardom without that same prolonged period of learning by doing on the boards.

West End theatres will dim their lights for two minutes at 7pm on Tuesday 3 November in remembrance of Sir Patrick Stewart, who has died at age 86.
Stewart made his professional stage debut in 1959 at the Theatre Royal in Bristol. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966, appearing in up to 60 productions, and later came to international fame through Star Trek: The Next Generation and many other screen roles.
Knighted in 2010 for services to drama, Stewart received many awards for his work. He won Olivier Awards for Antony and Cleopatra (1979) and Hamlet (2009), while his one-man production of A Christmas Carol won Best Entertainment in 1994.

I know everyone loves The Measure of Man but I've been convinced for a while now that some of his best acting was in this random episode from season 5, A Matter of Time. That's pure stage dialogue. He was so good. RIP
One of the best TV performances of all time. And the best Captain, no debate.
Sir Patrick Stewart, go well into the night.

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

Young people can't get their start. Experienced people can't get their next opportunity and level up. Older adults are getting pushed out, taking their institutional knowledge with them. It's so bleak.

Thirty years ago, London was not only a better place to earn money, it was also a vastly better place to spend it. The first has been eroded by property costs, the second by a mix of online shopping, vastly improved smaller cities, etc.

On a packed train with my family. Couple across the aisle both alternatively playing social media videos on speakers at full volume. Managed not to say anything until the woman started playing a documentary about serial killers. I'm here with my daughter.
I politely said "please could you turn it down it's not appropriate." To which she replied "I'm sure she's heard worse at school." I said that really wasn't her call to make and in general could she please reduce the volume.
Her response "Its a public train for heavens sake".
For me that's exactly why it is anti social (and what headphones were invented for). I'm wondering which one of us is out of kilter on this?
Ps I should note she did thankfully reduce the volume and we all left it there.
