Happy to introduce my new @substack newsletter, The SS Ben Hecht: open.substack.com/pub/stephe…
THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK- Opening night is a gem, starring John Turturro as a criminal from a different time, wearing an impossibly cool jacket #PFF35
ELSINORE- I liked this more than last year's Oscar-bait film, a tragedy adjacent to "Hamlet." Scott is great, but that was just an excessive number of montages. #PFF35
DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID- I love Radu Jude, but this didn't entirely do it for me; I never thought I'd consider one of his works "not weird enough." But "you look like Mishima after his harakiri" is a Hall of Fame line #PFF35

Important context in here around the quote -- Holmes said other things contemporaneously expressing the same idea, strongly suggesting the NYT had the quote right.
In today's @nytimes Backstory newsletter, I talk to Amy Chozick about the new Elizabeth Holmes documentary and Holmes's dispute over a quote from Chozick's NYT profile of her. The movie brings up the quote several times as it assesses Holmes's veracity. nytimes.com/2026/10/22/insid…

Trump on Jon Husted: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

Ohio politics blogger and Shrek penis pic texter guesses that long-time Vance advisor and former DHS Tricia's husband/ Kristi Noem $200M horseback ad-maker were the two masterminds of the Vivek Amy Acton molestation mother ad.
(I just had to write that sentence because it will never again be possible to string those words together. Let me have hobbies.)

All roads lead to Jai Chabria and Strategy Group CEO Ben Yoho as the masterminds of the ad.
Spokeswoman Connie Luck, who was already en route to Hell, should never work in politics ever again, either, for trying to cast doubt on Acton's well-documented trauma.
The explanation seems to be that college was a long time ago and she doesn’t remember
A day after Peggy Flanagan’s Senate campaign said she wasn’t a member of Phi Beta Kappa, her aides said Wednesday that the Democrat had been inducted into the national honor society. In an email, a representative of Phi Beta Kappa said the same. wsj.com/politics/policy/minn…

the third paragraph of this YCSE review by @ocksportello (which obviously has spoilers) is the best thing I've yet read on the movie bkmag.com/2026/10/21/you-can…

Okay, fine. I apologize to ISIS for comparing them to Michael Jackson's fans.

Not to mention how they had to reshoot the movie because they planned to make the molesting of Jordan Chandler out to be a misunderstanding. The movie was intended to make people idolize MJ there is no award for doing that. Especially in honor of a child molester.
I guess the "her estranged grandpa was a serial killer" thing didn't work out, so they're pivoting to this.
NEW: Phi Beta Kappa says Lt. Gov. Flanagan has in fact been a "member ... in good standing" since 2002.
Which means, it seems the WSJ was wrong and Flanagan was wrong about being wrong.
