Channel 4’s Britains Gaza’s Secrets Exposed shows why Andy Burnham turned down Jeremy Corbyn’s call for a public enquiry into the Gaza genocide.
An enquiry would expose the UK government were advised that Israel were committing war crimes, but chose to keep arming them anyway.

Just complete bollocks.

2. Children killed: Gaza 21,000+ vs Ukraine 820
3. Aid workers killed: Gaza 593 vs Ukraine 35

Remember Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak announced Eat Out to Help Out without consulting the scientists?
Turns out Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper proscribed PA as a terrorist org without involving the UK’s National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell.
What a scandal!

This afternoon’s summary of what happened in Russell Brand’s rape and sexual assault trial.
The jury heard a recorded police interview with the fifth alleged victim, who alleges Brand anally raped her at his home. The interview lasted about two hours.
She was in her early 20s when she attended one of Brand’s shows at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2009 with a friend. She was a fan, and her dad had bought her the tickets.
That was where she first met Brand and was selected and invited into his dressing room. She performed oral sex on him, and he had sex with the other woman in the room on a sofa.
She said everything that happened in the dressing room was consensual, adding that Brand did not make her do anything she did not want to do while she was there.
After telling her boyfriend what had happened with Brand, she temporarily moved out. She said Brand contacted her repeatedly over the following week, suggesting they meet up and telling her, “I will make you feel happy.” After he continued messaging her, she agreed to meet him.
She said Brand asked her to come to his flat, where he told her: “You need to have a shower and brush your teeth.” She said this made her feel “shit”.
She described initially having consensual sex with Brand but alleged that he later anally raped her despite her begging him to stop. She said he told her he wanted her “to feel his cum”.
She alleged that after raping her, he said: “You need to clear up the mess you made.”
She said there was blood and excrement on the bed. She went to the toilet, folded up toilet paper and put it in her knickers because she was bleeding.
She said she then began making the bed, pulling up the duvet to cover the stains.
Describing her return to her friend’s flat that evening, she said: “I had to sit on an ice cream tray because I was in so much pain.”
She said she left feeling disgusted and distressed. She later feared Brand had given her HIV, although she subsequently tested negative.

Today, Brad Lander, rabbis, and other New Yorkers accompanied Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. For that, they were detained by the Israeli government.
Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is.
I am thankful that Brad has been released. But other New Yorkers remain detained, and they must be released immediately.
The same Israeli government detaining them has committed a horrific genocide against Palestinians, killing more than 74,000 people over the last few years alone.
The detention of these New Yorkers must end. The occupation must end. The genocide must end.

The UK’s ability to uphold the values of the rules-based international system is compromised unless we hold Saudi Arabia to account for the indiscriminate killing of civilians in Yemen. Here’s my contribution following @StephenTwigg’s urgent question today:

This latest article from Thomas Pikkety, the renowned French economist and leading authority on wealth inequality, should be essential reading here in the UK.
His argument is simple.
France has never been wealthier. Yet education funding per student has fallen by 20% since 2017, public services are struggling, and inequality is deeply embedded in the system.
Sound familiar?
The problem isn't that our countries have run out of wealth. It's how that wealth is distributed, who controls it, and the political choices made to protect it.
For decades, we've been told that austerity, declining public services and falling living standards are unavoidable consequences of economic crises, yet those same decades have seen extraordinary concentrations of private wealth.
Socialise the costs. Privatise the gains.
This is the reality we all need to wake up to.
These aren't inevitable economic outcomes. They're the consequences of political choices, made over time, that have prioritised the accumulation of private wealth over the needs of society.
And as public anger grows, we're seeing a deeply concerning response: The rise of the far right, directing that anger towards immigrants, disabled people, those claiming welfare and other vulnerable groups, rather than towards the economic structures responsible for the inequalities people are rightly furious about.
As @NaomiAKlein describes fascism, "it's capitalism's most ferocious threat response. A way of directing public anger downwards at the vulnerable, rather than upwards at the system."
Fascism doesn't challenge the status quo. It protects it by giving people someone else to blame.
The fundamental question isn't whether our societies can afford something better. It's why, when we've never been wealthier, we're repeatedly told we must accept less.
We need to fundamentally rethink an economy built around extraction, exploitation and wealth concentration, and start building one that delivers equitable, sustainable prosperity for everyone.
And with the UK Budget next week, this should be a serious warning to @UKLabour.
If the Budget fails to acknowledge this fundamental reality, and instead offers another round of "difficult decisions" that protect concentrated wealth while asking ordinary people to shoulder the burden, then @andyburnham really hasn't understood what's happening across Europe.
What's unfolding in France isn't an isolated protest. It's a warning of what happens when people stop accepting that a society growing ever wealthier somehow can't afford to give them a better life.
This isn't something politicians can keep kicking down the road.
The warning signs are everywhere. The question now is whether those in power are prepared to confront the causes, or continue defending the very system that's driving the anger.

I don't seem to remember a Parliamentary debate about the UK becoming an active participant in a hot war... or whether we should be supporting a horrific dictatorship that is responsible for gross human rights abuses and war crimes... because from here, it certainly looks like were being embroiled in an escalating regional war with a genocidal Israel and insane Trump in the driving seat, each with their own interests that conflict with ours.
EXCLUSIVE: The UK’s Royal Air Force will fly defensive missions to protect Saudi Arabia from escalating Houthi attacks, according to British officials familiar with the matter
RAF Typhoon fighter jets will help defend Saudi cities and infrastructure against aerial attacks from the Iran-backed militant group, the people said. Andy Burnham has signed off on the decision
Britain will also provide an Atlas A400M transport aircraft with heavy lift capability to move kit around Saudi, as well as military advisers
The decision marks an extension of UK support for Saudi in the wake of Houthi attacks which have killed more than a dozen people in Riyadh. There have been multiple attacks on the kingdom in recent days

It completely changes the approach to IPC, supposedly to address the findings of the Covid Inquiry M3 report…
…but actually downgrades mitigations even further!

I cannot believe this. The 2024 NHS pandemic plan states the following generic assumptions:
“it will not be possible to halt the spread of a new pandemic virus, and it would be a waste of public health resources and capacity to attempt to do so.”

The original Zionist objective from 1897:
"Zionism seeks to establish a home for the Jewish people in Palestine secured under public law.”
@GretaThunberg is absolutely right.
The original definition, and the Israeli government's version of Zionism being invoked are one and the same.
Any other person's definition of Zionism is irrelevant. There is only ONE version being invoked, and it's genocidal.
I stand with @ZackPolanski and @TheGreenParty.
Shame on every other leader who's made a deliberate choice to enable and provide political cover for heinous crimes against humanity.
