"Now We Act" – a new series in conversation with American elected officials on "Thinking About..." We will talk about the chance the Democrats have to effect a political and a systemic realignment – laying foundations for policies that will make daily life more prosperous, rewarding, and free.

What policy do you think we should adopt to account for economic externalities? Do you think depletion, pollution and habitat loss should be reflected in prices, so profit aligns with sustainable practice? Are you concerned that nanoplastics will jam up cell function globally?

We can dampen the tendency of governments to do harmful things if we demand respect for individual sovereignty. Let each taxpayer move any part of their tax payment FROM support of things that they see as harmful, TO alternative uses that most people agree are better for society.

What do you think abt a switch to a principled approach? Orient around primary values, rather than around parties. Embody respect for Truth by accounting for econ. externalities. If random deliberative polls show that most people want less of given impacts, charge or raise fees.

Decades ago, news media showed more willingness to report on forest destruction & species extinction. They never got around to discussing systemic solutions What do U think of the idea that the ppl at large should demand ownership of the decision re how much we destroy habitat?

Expand respect for property rights even further by respecting the shared right of the people to set overall limits on paving, rates of extraction, pollution and other adverse impacts. Issue a set # of permits, reflecting what random polls indicate is OK, auction them, share money

South Korea is implementing policies of the future today -- dividends for all citizens from AI and renewables. I sat down with one of the key figures behind this, Vice-Chair of South Korea's Presidential Commission on Basic Society, Dr. Nam-hoon Kang. We covered AI and land dividends, renewable energy, and sovereign wealth funds as a path to higher living standards across the board. I hope other countries will take note. Two Palestinian vehicles were reportedly set on fire outside homes in Majdal Bani Fadil, south of Nablus in the West Bank, early Tuesday, according to Palestinian reports cited by The Jerusalem Post. Suspected Jewish extremists are believed to have carried out the attack following Monday’s evacuation of an illegal Israeli outpost. A revenge motive is suspected, not established. Are you counting all money spent on renewable energy generation as a cost that would not have existed if there was no policy? It costs money to create generating capacity. If you want better public policy, call for fee-&-dividend (no subsidies needed), and strong respect for...

I suppose that, when satellites collide with air molecules, the molecules bounce off the satellite at the speed of impact (like an air hockey puck bouncing off the paddle). So, at a speed beyond escape velocity. Satellites are slowly eroding the atmosphere, it would seem @Grok?

I don’t know when, but he will. And you, Europeans, will be surprised to discover that this war is aimed at you, too... You think that what is happening in Moscow has nothing to do with you—that it’s our problem. Putin hates people like me, certainly. But through us—in Russia, or through the revolutionaries in Ukraine or Georgia—it is you he hates: your democracy, your society, your freedoms. Do you think his regime is merely a threat to us? Your awakening will be brutal." Anna Politkovskaya, in Paris, 2005. She was assassinated in the lobby of her apartment building on October 7, 2006—Putin’s birthday.

Can we make this kind of bravery a history lesson? We should, I think, demand that all people have the right and ability to move any part of their tax payment AWAY from support of things that offend their conscience, provided they move the money TOWARD support of better things.
