New open-access paper: Four agricultural drainage ditches on Maryland's Eastern Shore—DOC, DON, & phosphate from field edge to outlet—while nitrate rose 6.8-fold. Dual nitrate isotopes point to shifting source waters and possible in-ditch transformations

Honored and humbled to be elected Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy @ASA_CSSA_SSSA
Grateful to the mentors, collaborators, and students. Many thanks to my amazing nominator and peers for writing the letters. Much appreciated!
Profoundly humbled and deeply honored to be named a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA). My gratitude extends to my nominator and esteemed colleagues for supporting the nomination. Also, check out a new article of our work in the Bay Journal!

Have you heard about home-field advantage? It turns out microbes like the home environment, too, when it comes to decomposing litter (well, initially and then they get comfortable!)! New paper with colleagues from Northwest A&F University.

Oh wow, has anyone experienced this? A reputed journal from @WileyGlobal, @GlobalChangeBio, rejected our paper because the Editor could not find reviewers and blamed us (the subject editor could have assessed the paper before sending it out for reviewers, as many reputed journal editors do). This is new to me! I routinely have to send up to 20 invites to secure 3 quality reviews. The publication system needs a serious overhaul. Pay your reviewers!
Amazing opportunity to be a Dean and lead our college, @UMD_AGNR . Check it out. wittkieffer.com/positions/20…

Wrapped up the week in beautiful @AarhusUni campus and #Denmark learning/talking about #Nitrogen (N) at the International N Workshop and around! A lot to unpack, and celebrate new friendships and potential future collaborations! #agriculture #waterquality #chesapeakebay #Maryland
Happy to announce a “Visiting Professor” appointment in the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Northwest A&F University in China!
Wonderful event! It was great facilitating a panel discussion on developing a professional career for students and early career researchers, with my co-panelists @cwrice , #JohannesLehmann, and #XiojuanFeng! (Picture 2)! #soilscience #agriculture
For students and early career professionals attending #SOM24, a special professional development session is scheduled for Monday, the 27th, at 6:00 PM at the Ibn Rochd Auditorium on the UM6P campus in Benguerir, Morocco! Come say hi!

EGU2024? If you’re attending EGU next week in Vienna, Austria, say Hi or Hallo & check out two excellent sessions and our talks:
1) Advancing water quality science. April 17. lnkd.in/e-3rRDtv
2) P cycling & transport in legacy P soils. April 19. lnkd.in/ebrA8pU8
What is the fate of applied P in soils amended with manures and wastes? Some refer to it as old, legacy or residual P, but it's all the same thing, as P in soils accumulate/sorb as amorphous and/or crystalline P compounds/minerals, as controlled by soil characteristics.
Another previous paper, led by current PhD student Emileigh, in Chemosphere, used XANES in a different set of soils to probe P chemistry in soils. Lucas et al. 2022. lnkd.in/eu9K9RKe. Download a PDF copy here: lnkd.in/eud9jsHw
