Joy Supply, a Brooklyn-based clean cookie brand, secured $700K in seed funding led by Sling Ventures. Launched in May 2026 by Lindsay Leopold, a former pastry chef and product developer for Martha Stewart, Joy Supply uses a family recipe from 1908 to bake thin and crispy oat cookies. Joy Supply’s cookies are made with whole-grain oats grown on regenerative American farms. Their cookies are also free from artificial colors, artificial flavors, fake sugars, and preservatives. Joy Supply will use the capital to scale production and expand further into retail.

Push Matcha, the No. 1 matcha brand in Latin America, is launching its ultra-functional matcha latte line in the U.S. in January. Important to remember that your Target buyer is a Roundel ads manager now. Your brand is content and ad spend for the Roundel machine. They have a quota to hit and they are saying “yes” to hit that quota.
The thing about all these new brands launching at Target is that it’s now a signaler of nothing? Like it used to be a big deal to get an account like Target but now the brands are being shoved in there when there isn’t even proper space for them, the merchandising is bleak and brands disappear from shelves just as fast.

Press has been in since July but we have been swamped. First production run this AM. Just pressed and cut 4100 lbs of ribeyes in 3 hours. Trimmed some tail off, guessing a 93 % yield but haven’t seen paperwork yet.

I have spent 22 years running nutrition brands, and looked hard at far more than I have taken on. Here is what I actually look at. Does the product have a reason to exist that is not marketing? Greens Plus created the first commercially available blended green superfood powder. That is a real first, and it still carries the brand. Who bought it twice? Repeat rate tells you more than revenue. Revenue can be bought. What does the founder believe that is not true? Every brand has one, and you take it on along with the inventory. What breaks at three times the volume? Usually a co-packer, a single ingredient source, or one person. What I have learned to weigh less: the deck, the TAM slide, and any sentence containing the word disruptive. What I have learned to weigh more: the answer to what did you stop selling, and why. A founder who has never killed anything has not made a hard decision yet. The through line is the same one that runs through the book. The number of things that help people is small. A brand worth running is one that sells those and is straight with people about the rest.

Early to mid stage CPG brands - don’t ever work with number 1s. Don’t work with #1 co-packer. Don’t work with #1 logistics partner. Don’t work with #1 agency. Don’t work with #1 …you get it. Look for hungry challengers in their field like yourself. Make them aware that they can grow with you and be loyal. They’ll go the extra mile for you, the extra hour, the extra effort. You won’t get that from #1.

Went to @SupplySide yesterday. Almost every booth was an overseas (Indian/Chinese) ingredient supplier. A lot of the “U.S. companies” were sourcing raw materials from overseas too. Middle-men. The companies making stuff in the U.S. from U.S.-sourced raw materials were there too. Small booths, hard to find. Made some good contacts. Not a total waste of time. Let’s bring manufacturing back home though, ok?
