The issue isn't simply about the number of trains, But the Number of trains that Effectively Serves! A lot of trains passing through these regions are actually meant to connect their originating and terminating stations. For people who wanted to board at Tiruchi/Salem, getting a confirmed seat is difficult. Quota allocation, existing demand and the fact that these trains are already carrying passengers from their origin. "Number of trains passing through" doesn't necessarily mean that there is adequate connectivity!!! This is where a dedicated Intercity services matters! One Masterstroke move was the introduction of 16807/08 Tiruchchirappalli Tambaram Intercity Via Main Line. it gave the Main Line a dedicated daytime fast service. Such a train should now be Introduced to Tiruchchirappalli, Salem and Tiruvannamalai. #1 Tiruchchirappalli ⇌ Chennai The extension of the Pallavan Superfast towards Karaikkudi has also changed the passenger dynamics of the Tiruchchirappalli - Chennai The train now additionally serves new Load of passengers from Pudukkottai & Karaikkudi, bringing more demand into a Saturated Pallavan Superfast. Tiruchchirappalli originating fast service would make sense as a kind of Pallavan clone providing Tiruchchirappalli an additional direct daytime option towards Chennai. New Intercity from Salem should be introduced: Salem → Attur → Chinnasalem → Vriddhachalam → Chennai It would effectively provide a proper daytime Chennai connection for the districts of Salem, Kallakurichi and Cuddalore. #3 Tiruvannamalai⇌Chennai Intercity This is one of the most striking gaps For a major pilgrimage, direct connectivity with Chennai is where the Number of intercity Trains, Daily express train connectivity itself is at 0!! There is only one direct train, and its a MEMU covering a large number of stoppages along the way.. This cannot be considered a Prime connectivity to major city with the State capital. A dedicated Tiruvannamalai Chennai Intercity is a long overdue. Ideally, it should cover the distance in around 3 to 3.5 hours, with a morning arrival in Chennai and an evening departure back towards Tiruvannamalai.
