“It is an honour and privilege for Rwanda to be chosen as a destination in the Formula One calendar. What brought us together is a shared conviction that Africa has the potential to elevate the quality of motorsports as a global and elite discipline.
Integrating African markets with global sports franchises and competitions offers transformative opportunities. Yet, if we have to be honest with ourselves, this cross-border connection has existed for a long time, just not in Africa’s favour.
The message for all of us is simple: sports is a great equalizer, but we have to be intentional about delivering this promise. Rwanda is happy and excited to be part of a journey that will change how Africa is perceived in the world of sports. We want to contribute, not just participate, and this new chapter in motorsports starts today" President Kagame | Formula 1 African Grand Prix Announcement

I want to salute the memory of King Oyo for the wonderful work he did. I was very sad because, a day after he was buried, I was going through my documents and found a letter he had written to me on 15th June 2026, thanking me for a number of things, including the appointment of ministers from Tooro.
I also congratulate His Highness Nyabongo. I have been watching him on the news and he is a good newsreader. I am sure he will do a good job.

Last night in Fort Portal, men with reed torches walked Omukama Nyabongo I from Rwengoma to Karuziika. He fought a mock battle at Mugabante, turned the royal drums upright, and Tooro had a new king.

You can’t claim to have loved King Oyo that much, then turn around and pray for his successor and the very Kingdom he loved so much to fail.

Someone is heard saying, “abakaazi nibaserra ki, batatusisira emikolo” no go zone for women. Maara baana inywe?
Tooro where I come from, my culture, my identity. Now I’ve stories to tell my children.
Omukama Edward Rukiidi Nyabongo 1 enthronement rituals continue.
Culture at its best.
There’s a whole generation of young men and women in Tooro experiencing this for the very first time. Kujumura Engoma. Our grandfathers used to tell us these stories, they would say inywe musangire tugurusire.
Rwengoma palace, the great trek to karuzika.
They chased women, okay Thats a bit salty, culture doesn’t allow women in this 10pm trek. We are waiting, we want content
