In 2018, Africa had about 4.3 million health workers. By 2024, that number reached 5.72 million. That is about 700,000 more nurses, doctors, midwives and other health workers in six years. Community health workers alone now number around 1.06 million. For many families in rural areas, they are the first, and often the only, link to care. But these numbers represent less than 50% of the health workforce Africa needs to meet Universal Health Coverage targets by 2030. The shortage is easing, but slowly. It has gone from 6.1 million to 5.85 million. We are moving in the right direction, but not fast enough. Africa must train, recognize, regulate, remunerate and empower its health workers faster and at a far larger scale. #AfricaCDC #PrimaryHealthCare #HealthSecurity #CHW2030 #fmohnigeria #UNICEF

Always grateful for the commitment of @RwandaHealth @RBCRwanda @RwandaNGOForum and our national leadership to prioritizing the fight against HIV and creating space for community-led solutions. #LetCommunityLead #EndAids2030
Putting Communities First: Transforming HIV and SRHR Through Partnership in Rwanda Rwanda’s HIV response is a global reference point, having reached remarkable milestones with adult targets now standing at 96-98-98. However, national averages can sometimes hide the people the system still misses. In this compelling article, we highlight the impactful power of collaboration and partnership between the @RwandaNGOForum and @UNAIDSRwanda in putting key and priority populations, including FSW, MSM, transgender people, PWID/PWUD, people with disabilities, and AGYW, at the center of the HIV and SRHR response through Community-Led Monitoring (CLM), data-driven advocacy, and policy transformation. Read the full article here: rwandangoforum.rw/how-unaids… How can we better leverage community-led monitoring (CLM) and SRHR initiatives to reach the last mile and ensure no one is left behind in our health responses? I slept early last night and had a dream that the cobblestone road (Umuhanda w' amabuye) from Gisimenti down to Sonatubes had been tarmacked 🛣️! But alas, I regret to say the dream was untrue! For as long as there's a dream, there is hope 😅! The dreams we dare to dream!

#Kigali's palm trees have quietly become part of our skyline. As the roadworks reshape the city beneath them, I find myself hoping these green giants make it through the dust and disruption. They're basically the city's green soul at this point. 🌴🚧" @CityofKigali
