During the Bush and Obama eras I felt like I was very much in tune with, and part of, coastal urban educated liberal American culture.
Since the Trump era, I've felt increasingly alienated from that culture.

I have a buddy in France, and they just had an election there. Polls closed a few hours ago and they already know who the winners are. Must be nice to live in a first world country.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
There are no winners yet in the French presidential election and the results released so far are provisional because most of the votes are yet to be counted. Voting takes place over two rounds in France and each country's system is unique to it.

It's symptomatic of the weakness of USA political parties that they are instruments of party elders and don't have much institutional purpose. In other countries, older leaders are pushed into retirement & younger cohorts cultivated in interest of parties.

You’re gonna stop the game for flashing lights? That’s what Fenway looked like every time Pedro threw a pitch in the 90’s.

How has America changed in the last 20 years? After 3,000 people were killed on 9/11, Americans accepted some limits on their liberty to prevent it from ever happening again. (1/2)

The idea that these vaccines came out of nowhere is a failure of science communication with tragic results. They're the result of DECADES of basic research in MULTIPLE fields building on the BREADTH and DEPTH of human knowledge. That’s how science works. And it's awe inspiring.

As a child, Hank Aaron hid under his bed when the KKK stormed through his neighborhood.
As an 18 year old, he left Mobile, Alabama with two sandwiches and two dollars.
He retired as baseball's home run king and died today a hero. So inspiring.

On a day for the history books, @TheAmandaGorman delivered a poem that more than met the moment. Young people like her are proof that "there is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it; if only we're brave enough to be it."

Henceforth, Donald Trump shall be known as lame duck a l’orange.
I have spoken.
Over heard at the WH: "We haven't seen lame duck a l'orange all week. Maybe he's still marinating." @realDonaldTrump

America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country.
The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not.
I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.

Clinton lost independents by 4 points. Biden won them by 14.
Clinton got 52% of moderates. Biden got 64%.
