Amazing: Manuel Álvarez Escudero 104, is believed to be the world's oldest active chess player. The Spanish player, rated 1750 Elo, still plays tournaments and simultaneous matches, credits his longevity to a healthy lifestyle, and stays sharp by combining chess with regular exercise.
Age is just a number in chess!

"It takes a huge investment in introspection to learn that the thirty or more hours spent studying the news last month neither had any predictive ability during your activities of that month nor did it impact your current knowledge of the world." - Nassim Nicholas Taleb

When you’re a startup, the last thing you want to be doing is building glue code.
You want to spend all your time instead building your core business logic.
This is what @rails solves for you. Use it to skip building glue code and save time.
The framework is optimized for making single engineer / small teams productive, while also helping you scale your app from zero to billions in revenue.
It’s not a framework that gets hyped too much, but as a happy Rails user, I want to help change that. So you might see more Rails tweets from me shortly.
This comp story is in India: 40 lakh is ~$46K per year or ~€40K per year.
I would think tech companies need to pay a premium if asking for 5 days in-office. Anyone who doesn’t do so: you’ll likely only be able to hire candidates who get no other offers, or prefer daily commute
Got a call from Zepto HR
Asked my expected base, I said 40
She said max we can give is 38
At this point I had interviews going on, so I was like okay sure
Then she said, "You’ll have to come to the office every day, and only if it’s some emergency and you have to go home, then you can do WFH"
I was like okay that’s weird, but anyways
Then I asked, "If I get an offer from somewhere else, because I already have some interviews going on, would you match it?"
She was like, "NO. If you are joining Zepto, then it’s not for money but for learning".
I get the whole "learning over money" thing - but expecting that after lowballing the comp and forcing daily office just doesn’t add up.
I’d heard stories about Zepto’s work culture, now I understand where they came from.
Didn't appear for the interview process because I had gotten a better offer and didn' wanted to work in such an envrionemnt.

That is so true @GergelyOrosz
Weight loss advice is based on studies conducted on men and applied to women.
When female hormones enter the picture, science suddenly finds it ‘too complicated’ and ‘too expensive’ so they study men, apply the results to women, and pretend it’s universal truth.
As a result, the recommendations women receive are often based on male physiology and when they don’t work, the blame is placed on women.
Not the research. Not the bias. Women.
Science has historically neglected female bodies. This isn’t controversial, nor is it a theory. It’s how medical research has operated for decades. The research is deemed ‘done’ because it’s been ‘done’ on men.
The studies are male. The standard is male. The failure is assigned to women.
Yes, historically accurate: pre-1993, medical research (including weight loss) often excluded women due to "complex" hormones and costs, applying male-centric results universally—blaming women for failures. But post-1993 NIH mandates, women are now overrepresented in weight loss trials (often >50% participants), improving tailored advice.
@grok so 30 years of studies have included women? That’s great to hear!
