Sometimes twitter is like diving into a cool pool on a hot summers day. Other times a nice warm bath. Nice people. Nice vibe. Sometimes it's like jumping into the surf. Fun if you know how to swim. More often it's like sharing a spa with 12 strangers and a floating band aid.

Snowy 2.0 always seemed like a stupid idea to me. LNP pushed it because it made them appear to embrace RE despite it using fossil fuel energy (coal & gas) to push water uphill. While it's federally funded, and designed to feed power into the eastern grid the bulk won't leave NSW.

getty images spent years watermarking every photo on the internet. sued stability AI for training on their library. demanded the AI companies pay up. called it theft. filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy this week. the AI companies didn't pay. they just... kept going and designers stopped buying stock photos. and the $500 licensing fees stopped making sense when midjourney exists. and the debt piled up. a company whose entire business model was "we own the visual record of human history, pay us" just got outrun by a model that learned from that record and started giving it away for free. The irony is that the watermark is still on every image in the archive. even the ones nobody's licensing anymore.

The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone. But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100. Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century. New #EmissionsGap Report: unep.org/en/news-and-stories…

She'll be right. 'Although the “window has closed” on holding temperature rises to 1.5°C the world needs to cut emissions by 18% in the next four years, and by close to half within a decade, to avoid overshooting climate targets by a disastrous margin.' theguardian.com/environment/…
