The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone.
But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100.
Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century.

Fixed it
Fixed it, @UNEP
We cannot return to lower temperatures with only emission reductions and carbon capture and storage
Anyone who claims that is grossly negligent.
Misrepresention of inconveniet truths in order to give people false hope is very dangerous.
Come on folks tell the truth. It's important. Civilization collapse is guaranteed @2C .
It's already started... Re 1 in 1000yr + PLUS extreme weather events happening every decade or more soon. Everywhere 🌊🔥🌀☀️
1C in 2015 1.5C in 2024 👀
.5C in 10yrs!
We're at 1.5C & nearly at 2C soon

Why use the language "the point of no return"? We certainly can't prevent crossing 1.5C. But the only well informed policies would have to account for the benefits of returning to 1.5C and the costs of doing so. Using language like "the point of no return", it's connects to extremists who think society will end if we warm more than 2.5C (or some other threshold).
Back to 1.5°C is like saying an apple thrown in the air won't come down. It would need ~400–500 billion tonnes of CO2 removed, ~5,000× today’s rate, every year for 80 years.
That’s betting on anti-gravity. Plan for the apple falling.

The biggest polluters are running away from their climate responsibilities. DISGRACEFUL! They caused the problem, and now the world pays the price. CUT EMISSIONS, HONOUR YOUR COMMITMENTS, AND PAY UP! @StateDept @USAmbUN @USUN @UNEP_NAmerica @UNFCCC @UNEP
Is there any proof that the pre-industrial temperature average, or 1.5 degree or whatever is the ideal global temperature we should strive for?
As climate has always been changing throughout earth history, the valid question is how to ensure food security and energy security within a changing climate, but not this stupid obsession with 1.5 degrees, which is a political goal to start with.
UN has milked the climate issue for money and power for far too long.
🤣🤣🤣
The #ClimateScam is doubling down!
If your climate ISN'T changing, it's not a climate, it's a vacuum.

Germany is about to permanently flood one of the largest open-cut lignite mines in the world - a blatant act of environmental vandalism
The Hambach mine sits on an estimated 1 billion tonnes of extractable lignite reserves. Yet under Germany's accelerated coal exit plan, mining will cease in 2030, and the pit - descending nearly 400 metres below ground- will be flooded to create a massive recreational lake.
Flooding Hambach represents an irreversible loss of a critical domestic energy reserve. Critics view it as an act of energy vandalism by a political class obsessed with meeting rapid net-zero targets.
Located in North Rhine-Westphalia - where the state environmental ministry is led by the Green Party - the decision reflects a broader ideological pivot. The same political movement that dismantled Germany's functioning nuclear plants is now entombing a billion tonnes of hugely valuable domestic fuel beneath hundreds of metres of water.
Once the pit fills with water piped from the Rhine River, the coal reserves beneath will be permanently inaccessible, leaving future generations without access to this strategic energy supply.
