I agree with you DG. I am however concerned of the same endless discussions, round tables, white papers and a lot of 'IP/TT Experts' from the developed nations coming to Africa to engage in talk shows. It's a 'Futures Scenarios' Concept which is very much speculative to the point of being academic fiction. Now is the time for actual capacity building program implementation. For goodness sake, we have been talking and discussing issues for over three Decades, since Trips!
Africa’s next IP chapter must be about economic advantage. We have built institutions, strengthened laws and expanded awareness. Now we must go further: using IP strategically to scale African enterprises, attract investment, build competitive brands and turn innovation into economic value. The measure of a strong IP system is not only the rights it grants, but the prosperity it helps create. #IntellectualProperty #Innovation #ARIPO50

Hello Aleck 👋, thank you for your interest. Currently, nine Member States have ratified the Swakopmund Protocol. The growing recognition of the importance of protecting traditional knowledge and cultural expressions is very encouraging, therefore, we look forward to welcoming more Member States as Parties to the Protocol.

Why is @OldMutualZW Frustrating SME's in Zimbabwe through exorbitant rentals? Almost All their Shopping Malls are empty due to high rentals! The ILO renovated and refurbished the OK Mart SME's Centre and one wonders why Old Mutual is destroying livelihoods while the Ministry of SME's is quite and not assisting @smedcozw . It's painful to see All efforts to assist SME's by @iloharare go to waste because of the insensitivity of Old Mutual Zimbabwe. The question is in whose interest is OldMutual Zimbabwe operating? . @citezw heraldonline.co.zw/bulawayo-…

Well said SG Mbalula. The African National Congress @MYANC must never take its eyes off the ball. As the mother Liberation Movement on the continent, the ANC owes it to All Africans to achieve not only Political Independence but Economic Independence AS WELL. Forces of destabilization are All over and NEVER REST! Long Live Total African Liberation! @Sophie_Mokoena @Julius_S_Malema @MbalulaFikile @ChinamasaPA @KMarazanye
WATCH] On behalf of the African National Congress, I want to state that we a country of over 60 million. There are many people who come to our country and many come to our country to contribute to the wealth of our country and its progress. Many contribute positively in our country. There are people in our country who have taken it upon themselves to do things which the vast majority do not condone and this must not paint South Africans as xenophobic. Indeed we do have a challenge of illegal immigration in South Africa and it’s not a problem unique to South Africa. There are many country’s affected by this. South Africa is a signatory of the Geneva Convention and we must deal with this challenge within the perimeters of the law. We can’t deal with it with hatred. That is why government has adopted a program of action to deal with this particular challenge which the President has made a public announcement. We have called for law enforcement and calmness and follow the government’s Action Plan on dealing with illegal immigration. We have made it very clear as the ANC, we cannot and should not be associated with anything that amounts to hate crimes. In this particular instance the majority of South Africans are people of Ubuntu and humanity. Because we too would not be free without the solidarity and assistance of country’s such as Mozambique in the fight against apartheid. Many people sacrificed such as Samora Machel the President of Mozambique and many combatants died here fighting against apartheid. #ANCinMozambique #ANCatWORK

What happened to the FiFA mantra of Football and Politics not mixing? Or it's reserved for poor African Countries #FairPlay
The Bafana visa delay isn’t just an admin blunder. It must be read in the context of a deeply strained US-SA relationship, G20 exclusions, ambassador expulsions, frozen aid. Geopolitics has consequences on the ground. Let’s not scapegoat SAFA. #BafanaBafana #WC2026

This is very unfortunate. Why Do Black Africans Hate each other Like this? You will Never see Indians/whites and Coloureds doing this to one another! How does the South African Government allow vigilante groups to take the law into their own hands? #CryAfricans
There is no rule of law in South Africa It’s sad that @CyrilRamaphosa can go all the way to the ICC pontificating about human rights in Palestine while presiding over gross abuse of human rights right in South Africa. Hypocrites @ClaysonMonyela

The move by Ghana at the United Nations on Slavery being Declared the Greatest Crime against Humanity is a Wake up call for Africans! Next must be the Declaration of the Berlin Conference that partitioned Africa as Illegal and the Need for Reparations! The refusal of the so called Doyens of Democracy to support the GHANA Move is a Clear indication that they still hold Africa as their property and the current European and American Generations still hero worship their ancestors when it comes to the Subjugation of Africa. Africa must wake up and forge a united front against these hegimonic tendencies. The @_AfricanUnion must seize this opportunity and quickly move on this subject @AlexanderRusero @KMarazanye @KMutisi @Jamwanda2

Most major economies are powered by SME's in their various categories. The Trouble in Africa is that of associating SME's with Informality hence failing to nurture and grow them. There is huge potential and some SME's are very Innovative. It can be done with the right Strategy!
SMEs are the backbone of our economies. They deserve to compete with ideas, not just price. With the right IP strategy (trademarks, patents, designs), SMEs can build brands, attract partners, and enter new markets. #SMEs #IP #Trade

My take is that our R&D Institutions are failing to leverage on the Patent System due to failure to appreciate the value of Patent Information. With a Focused approach, solutions to most of the challenges of the Global South are there in the public Dormain. The question is Why are African Researchers failing to do even simple reverse engineering to tackle the Challenges?
Patent information is a strategic R&D resource. When used well, it helps researchers and institutions assess prior art, identify technology trends, and avoid duplication. Through the @_ARIPO regional online database and other search systems, we are enabling evidence-based research planning that strengthens the efficiency, relevance, and impact of R&D investments across the region.
