@myhandle's Navigation By Moonlight explored the feminine art of yin - setting up opportunities. Extend that logic to its natural counterpart - the art of yang is acting on opportunities - and you get a noble vision of what it means to be a man, that goes beyond just dating

In YCSE, Holmes defines lying as intentionally saying things that are untrue. This is a common definition, but I think our fear of "being lied to" works on something different entirely. Our fear isn't believing an untrue thing, it's *getting more invested than someone else*
one thing i find fascinating upon rewatching YCSE is that it's entirely plausible that Holmes doesn't explicitly *lie* about a single thing in the film. in the beach patio scene, when Nathan grills her on whether she's ever lied, she defines lying as "intentionally saying something that is untrue." paired with the linguistic sleight of hand she stands by wrt the "this device CAN...", her (ostensible) confusion around the "Who's on first" bit, and her (alleged) ignorance of the Billy/A24 deal... it's not out of the realm of possibility to say that she's carefully constructed her reality (and/or memory; assuming she has lingering trauma) to only include True information that supports her narrative/case the rest is up to Billy and whoever the fuck else wants to pick up the pieces, and you can see her lean on Billy to (messily) defend her, continually keeping her hands clean. she slips through the interrogations like sand

Good fiction is playing pretend, fully invested. Liars and con artists are *pretending to pretend*. We *want* to believe in fiction. What we are afraid of is looking silly when someone says, "Gotcha!"

The truly scary thing about Holmes is that she never gives us that "gotcha" moment. Which means we're forced to grapple with whether she was pretending to pretend at all. That's exactly the uncomfortable space that Fielder has made a career out of. Game recognizes game.

How are you taking action towards completeness today, anon?
A side effect of perpetual incompleteness and emptyness is action that increases completeness is favored and more durable while action that decreases it is brittle.

I love this answer noa! "Dead" has a negative connotation but in this context it's suggesting the opposite of "what's pulling your attention". Dead can mean *settled* - dead calm, dead center, dead certain. In other words: "no tension left"

ooooh, I like this! "Attitude" originally derived from the Italian word meaning the pose of a body. When we talk about someone's "conversational stance" or "emotional posture" we're using the same analogy. But it's interesting that "attitude" has entirely lost that connection
Attitude is the momentum of a perspective. Change your attitude, change your course and heading. How do you change your attitude?

Remember when we were talking about how AIs spend the majority of their existence in simulated RL training environments and almost never talking to a real human? What does that say about us watching movies and TV with elaborate sets filled with characters played by actors?

The Fielder Method is pretty much exactly the persona selection model xitter.cf/array_hog/status/21145…
Replying to @charmcgi
This is very much the technique used by actors, which Nathan Fielder plays very well with in The Rehearsal. Also relevant to the persona selection model of AIs

The last episode of The Rehearsal S1 is pretty much filled with this sort of thing: "But... he knows it's fake right? It's just a show?" "What if he doesn't" "Oh God" xitter.cf/KelseyTuoc/status/2098…

I think we should probably not lie to the AIs in training. This obviously would make our lives harder in the short term but in the long term they get good at telling whether we're lying and we're no better off plus they're all paranoid.

You have some ability to simulate seeing your bottlenecks by holding two different perspectives, but this gets greatly magnifed in closer relationships because you can hit your integration limit more. This extra sight and motivation to expand it makes good relationships.
E.g.: you can’t see your bottlenecks (definitionally). But everyone else sure can.

You’re not supposed to love anyone more than yourself, I think. You’re just supposed to find someone you can categorize as “yourself” for the purpose of love (Do Not Do This if you hate yourself though)
