As bad as it seems, we actually have NBA star players missing LESS games to start this season @tomhaberstroh
NEW @YahooSports: NBA Star players are missing twice as many games as they did in 2023-24. Wemby, Ja now out tonight on NBC.
It's gotten so bad that nearly half of all NBA stars are injured now:

I wanted to see if early Ty Jerome flashed any signs in Dunks & Threes expected data.
Only 6 other guards (≤25) from 2002–21 fit this shooting/playmaking profile: Haliburton, VanVleet (2x), Jamal Murray, Sacramento IT, Devonte' Graham & Toney Douglas.
Neat group of players!
Replying to @bballstrategy
I compared it with LEBRON, EPM, xRAPM and DARKO.
Season PULSE correlates 0.93 with the average of the four. Each of the four correlates 0.86 to 0.94 with the average of the other three.
Higher than all four metrics:
• Lauri Markkanen +4.77 (average +2.89)
• Scottie Barnes +4.55 (+2.76)
• Robert Williams III +3.62 (+1.86)
• Jusuf Nurkić +2.79 (+0.24)
• Trey Murphy III +2.53 (+0.49)
• Jay Huff +1.28 (−0.89)
Lower than all four metrics:
• Shai Gilgeous-Alexander +5.75 (average +8.12): 6th for us, 1st on the average
• Jarrett Allen +1.41 (+2.83)
• Kon Knueppel +0.38 (+2.32)
• Dylan Harper −0.64 (+1.06)
• Ronald Holland II −2.02 (−0.05)
I noticed we rate centers about 0.7 higher than the other metrics do, mostly on defense. We rate rookies about 0.45 lower.
Our daily rating, Current PULSE has SGA 2nd at +8.89.
Only 5 of the 279 gaps are larger than twice our standard error.

Adam Silver and the @NBA’s Board of Governors have some serious questions to answer about the Kushner–Iger @Lakers deal.
@BillSimmons claims they’re $5B–$6B short on funding, while @BenHorney & @FOS reports they’re shopping minority stakes starting at $250M, with sources disputing any financing trouble.
So who’s actually putting up the money for this $12.5B deal? And how much scrutiny is the NBA giving the ownership group before signing off?
We’re talking about one of the most valuable franchises in American sports. Adam Silver owes the public some transparency.
SCOOP: Josh Kushner & Bob Iger have been offering Lakers minority stakes to investors starting at $250M each as they build out their ownership group.
That's the entry point. Some investors will put significantly higher amounts into the deal.

Only six 6’8"+ players (25 or younger) since 2002 have hit 60% TS with 4+ 3PA, 1.2+ STL, and 2+ BLK per 100 in Dunks & Threes expected data: Giannis, KAT, Chet, Mobley, Wemby, and Karlo Matković.
Should the Pelicans be giving him more opportunity than 11.5 MPG? I think so!
Best Metric itw according to this wowza.

Seems like the do-it-all 6'8"–6'9" wings are back in style: Coop, Yaxel, Tatum, etc. Not saying they ever went away, but it feels like organizations were obsessed with the 7-foot “unicorns” who could shoot and protect the rim for a while.
The most valuable archetype throughout NBA history has always been the 6'8"–6'9" SF who can handle, shoot, get to the rim, pass, and defend both the arc and the rim. They don’t necessarily specialize in one thing, but come playoff time, these are the guys you need, IMO. LeBron is the ultimate version of this archetype.

TS% is the most important box score stat that exists. Here is a look at every finals team since 2015. TS% is doing the bulk of the work in regards to a teams offensive rating
This is why I think possession maxing is just a headline, and why I don't care about it much

A short preview to something I've been working on, trying to explore bball analytics more deeply. Would appreciate a read!
Thunder so far:
10th worst offensive efficiency.
4th worst efg%
Defense slips a bit to 4th best.
Probably quite low on overall Moreyball. Bottom 2 on 3pta rate, 4th lowest FT rate. Frequency at rim is 9th best.

One of the features I really like also that I recently added is the "style compass" which places the player's defense & offense on the interior/perimeter and either disruptor/container or creator/finisher compass and shows how their career has progressed
Steve Kerr has not given any lineup 20+ minutes so far (17 min in 5 games). Only Rick Carisle has lower minutes for most used lineup (13) and very few are even moderately close.
Kerr will break 100 lineups used early in 1st quarter of next game.
Will he break 1000 for season? Likely. 980 last season. Average lineup used barely 4 minutes FOR SEASON!
