During lockdown I kept a diary of all the incompetence, lies & mismanagement of this Tory government. It is now a book. Lest we forget, it is all in here!

So the announcement from Treasury this morning designed to get good headlines was scandalously misleading as it did not mention a commencement date. Healey reveals it will be April 2030 which is after the next general election!

For decades, people talked about pedestrianising Oxford Street. Yesterday, we made it happen. Almost 1km of our nation’s most famous high street is now officially traffic-free. And this is just the beginning. We’re transforming Oxford Street into a greener, safer, world-class destination that Londoners can be proud of. theguardian.com/cities/2026/…

Not even one full day and Londoners as well as guests of our capital are already fully embracing the pedestrian Oxford Street.

I wasn’t expecting walking down the middle of the newly pedestrianised Oxford Street to feel so lovely (never a word I’ve used for Oxford St before!). It instantly feels like something that should have been done years ago. Well done, @MayorofLondon, for finally getting it done.

You're not supposed to be able to drive around major global city centres, and when you do it makes them worse for the majority of people. Look how much better this is

I think this is the first time I have ever wanted to go to Oxford Street in 20 years. And I'm a Londoner! This looks great 😍

Alastair Campbell is right (not words I think I've said before!). Burnham isn't a "nice guy". He's not a genial, affable, professional Northerner. It's a facade covering up a deeply cynical, machiavellian, hyper-ambitious politician who will say anything to manipualte & for power

If this is your best eve of Budget attack on the government you really need to try harder. It’s making me miss Mel Stride’s speeches!

@campbellclaret unfortunately the characteristics you admire, are not ones I want in a Prime Minister. He couldn't get the job by fair means to resorted to foul..... Not for me and I have supported @UKLabour all my life. Not under Burnham. Never

It’s terrible. It’s the way he pretends it isn’t Starmer and Reeves. So deceptive.

Absolute rubbish. He’s announcing Starmer’s policies and benefiting from Starmer’s work internationally. Starmer and his team did all the negotiating with the EU,90% of the work was already done. Burnham will just step in and take the credit like he always does.

Unpaid carers thrilled to hear from the Chancellor of the 2030 start for the end of the cliff edge which means if they earn 1p over £204 a week they lose all their Carers Allowance - until they realise that is the year it begins not the time!
