Who do you call when the business gets heavy?
Not your team. Not your followers.
The person who tells you the truth.
If you can't name one, that's your next project.
I'm not sold on the word "tribe" for business.
A tribe is who you were born into.
A community is who you choose to serve.
Customers don't want to be a tribe. They want to be known.
Where do you land?
If your best people have to remember everything, you haven’t built a system. You’ve built a ceiling.
Good people can carry a business a long way.
Then volume grows. Handoffs multiply. The same questions keep landing on the same desks.
Your strongest people become bottlenecks because they’re the only ones who know how things work.
The fix isn’t to make people less important.
It’s to make their judgment more useful.
Start with one process your team repeats every week.
Make the steps clear. Name one owner. Define what “done right” looks like.
Then build the tools around it.
Take client onboarding.
If a founder has to explain the sale, assign the work, chase missing details, and check every kickoff, each new client adds more founder work.
A shared intake, a clear handoff, and automatic task creation can remove most of that chasing.
People still handle nuance. The system carries the routine.
But the real gain comes next:
When someone finds a better way, update the process. Now every future client benefits, not just the one that person served.
That’s where compounding starts.
Without systems, experience stays trapped in individuals.
With systems, experience becomes a company asset.
Don’t measure a system by how many tasks it automates.
Measure it by how much good judgment it frees up, and how much learning it preserves.
There was a season I struggled to make payroll.
My team got paid before I did. That's the rule. Every owner needs it.
Growing businesses eat cash. Some nights it feels like they're eating you.
Those nights taught me something.
If the only thing holding you up is the business, you're standing on the wrong thing.
Money is a tool. Purpose is the foundation.
Build With God. When the numbers dip, He doesn't.
If you're in a tight month right now, I'm praying for you.
Why: Real story from Bill's own archive. Nothing added. Confirm with
Pause before you build today.
Entrust your work and your fears to the Lord.
The Lord is faithful. He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 2 Thess 3:3
Build With God.
Good morning, Founders.
It's Wednesday. Halfway through the week.
Some of you are ahead. Some of you are behind. Both of you need the same thing.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Phil 4:6
Pray before you plan. Give thanks before you grind.
Then take the next step.
Build With God.
Going first: I stopped manually processing incoming customer support requests.
I connected my Gmail and our project management tool to a Dot agent in ChatGPT through MCP. Now it handles all the intake and prioritization. I named him Pauly, and he's basically my new project manager.
Game changer for where my time goes. What's yours?

Awesome call with @KurtisHanni!
Thanks @billwolfe for the connection!
Awesome stories of how he had to deal with Health Insurance for the companies he was a CFO for.
EVEN FIRED A BROKER! Super rare. (though it shouldn't be from what I'm hearing from @clintmwallace on the bar being so low).
SMBs who want to get clear on their financial from the top down, including the revamping all the accounting pieces, Kurtis and @bisoncfo are the ones to talk to.
Hustle culture isn't a work ethic.
It's a clarity problem wearing a work ethic.
A busy founder with no target isn't disciplined. They're lost, with great cardio.
Define the outcome first. Then work hard.
Agree or disagree?
Your best people should not be the glue holding your software together.
If they spend half the day moving data, chasing updates, and checking whether work got done, you have built a costly workaround. Not a strong team.
The best use of automation is not fewer people.
It is fewer reasons to pull good people away from work that needs their judgment.
Here is the split I use:
1. Automate the movement.
Route requests. Sync records. Assign tasks. Send reminders.
2. Keep people on the decisions.
What matters most? Where is delivery at risk? What does this customer actually need?
3. Use the time you free up.
Give someone clear ownership of better delivery, stronger relationships, or the next growth move.
That third step is where founders miss.
They save ten hours, then fill them with more busywork.
Take client onboarding.
A signed agreement can trigger payment, create the project, assign an owner, and request the right files.
Your lead should not have to babysit those steps.
They should review the client's goals, spot missing context, and make sure the first call starts with a plan.
But automate a broken handoff and you just move confusion faster. Define the steps, the owner, and the exception path first.
Then build the system.
The win is not that a workflow ran without a person.
The win is that your best person had time to notice something the workflow never would.
Concept: A system.
It's a decision you make once so you don't have to make it every day.
Three questions to find your next one:
1. What do I do every week that looks exactly the same?
2. What breaks when I'm out for a day?
3. What am I the only one who knows?
Write them down. Build a checklist for the first one.
Save this for your Friday planning.
Before you build further, pause with God.
Bring Him the decision you are afraid to make.
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Josh 1:9
Build With God.
Good morning, Founders.
It's Tuesday. No ceremony. Just the work.
Not for the applause. Not for the numbers.
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." Col 3:23
Do the one thing today that you've been putting off. Do it well.
Build With God.
What's the one thing in your business that only works when you're personally pushing it?
Be honest.
Your answer is probably the next system you need to build.
New here?
Say hi. Tell me in one line what you're building and who it's for.
Founders, owners, and faith-led builders welcome.
I want to know who's in this community.
Build With God.
Concept: Meaningful mission.
Not a slogan on your website.
It's the one sentence you'd still believe on your worst day in business.
If you can't say it in one line, you can't lead by it.
If you can't lead by it, every opportunity starts to look good.
Write yours today. One line.
What's yours?
Your ability to solve problems can become the reason your business never stops needing you.
You fix a missed handoff.
You resend the same instructions.
You chase the same approval.
Each fix gets the work moving. None of them stops the problem from coming back.
The better use of that hour is to change how the work gets done.
Start with one task you keep touching:
1. Define what “done” means.
“Handle onboarding” is vague.
“Collect payment, gather files, assign an owner, and confirm the start date” gives you something you can build around.
2. Give it an owner and a trigger.
Who is responsible? What starts the work? What happens if a step gets missed?
If those answers live in your head, you are still the system.
3. Automate the stable parts.
A paid invoice can trigger an intake form, create a project, and notify the person responsible.
Keep judgment with people. Stop making people move information between tools.
A task that takes 20 minutes three times a week costs roughly 52 hours a year. Spending a few hours fixing it can give you most of that time back.
Not every task needs a system. Repeated work with clear steps usually does.
The goal is not to solve the same problem faster.
It is to stop paying for the same solution with your time.
