This is more likely to come from new companies sprouting up than from established pharma, but would love to see an explosion in INDs for rare diseases

Cancer patients with the same diagnosis often have very different tumor biology. Molecular testing can reveal underlying differences, but that's slow and expensive. Introducing Holon-S1, our platform to predict genes and biomarkers from routine pathology slides. • beats two other models at predicting spatial gene activity in a controlled comparison • has identified potentially novel biomarkers in breast cancer and colon cancer • evaluated across 16 organ types and more than 15 scanners, using slides from both formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded and fresh-frozen tissue. We believe Holon-S1 has the potential to help researchers find new biomarkers in slides they already have, discover treatment targets, and bring more personalized cancer care within reach!

Next year, I will assign one of my jira tickets to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.

Disagree. Most of the problem is infra+security+IP+IT. If you cannot integrate or access the data you need for your agents, it becomes useless. Lots of start ups moving to running their own models. I could see this become standard across biotech+pharma

If every car had this, we wouldn’t need stoplights. Natural evolution of self-driving tech

My husband and I were so excited about the cake that we totally forgot that we were supposed to cut and share the first slice 😅 I don’t think cake smashing ever crossed our minds. It was AMAZING cake though. My husband even asked for a slice to be delivered to our honeymoon suite.

Actually, “bioethicists” tell you to your face to discard your affected embryos and that embryonic gene editing is “wrong” but somehow discarding potentially viable life isn’t. 🙄

I don’t think Cathy said anything incorrect. Delivery is still an issue, with known problems for both LNPs and AAVs. Not to mention some diseases impact a lot of tissues and you simply could not get a safe dose for even a pediatric patient. In our case, embryonic editing is the only hope to provide our CMT positive embryos a disease-free life. Of course it will take a lot of work to prove out the technology before it’s ready for human patients, same is true for all treatments. But why shoot someone down for trying?

You can argue that they are “improvers” but if they successfully get regulation changed, then families with heriditary diseases would still have a new avenue open up, and even if Cathy and Lucas abandon heriditary disease, another company could step up into its place. The effective outcome would still be great IMO

I wouldn’t qualify advocating for families and doing experiments on fibroblasts as “causing harm.” What exactly are you speaking up against?

Almost as bad as my family coming to me for medical advice because I’m a “doctor”. My PhD is in computational biology 💀

The slippery-slope case against germline editing collapses on contact with reality. The biologically disadvantaged underclass it warns against, is precisely what exists today for families living with heritable disease.

You probably need to contact a sales rep to have them compile all the services in one quote. Just make sure you add your own controls because I’ve had issues in the past w/them claiming they have internal controls and then the results being inconclusive/incorrect when we added our own controls.

I’m pretty sure you can order these assays through Twist and they will also do the synthesis, expression, etc for you.

If you can solve for toxicity with high confidence in humans, this opens the door for more direct to human testing. Drugs optimized for humans instead of mice, smaller clinical trial sizes, etc.

We did but unfortunately no one was available to respond to transfer the samples.

Part of me will always be scarred from buying a used -80 that spontaneously defrosted in the middle of the night, losing about 3 months of processed samples. There was an external sensor on it but I was working out of state and none of the techs would answer their phone

When I was working on this, GEMORNA has some sequences they publish that you can validate against. Therna also has a pretty good procedure for codon optimization but they have released any experimental results yet
