“Migration is a good thing. But we need to make sure that as positive as it is, if people are here and they don't have a right to be here, that the rules apply and that we make sure that they're adhered to strictly." — Minister @HMcEntee speaking on @rtetwip

I grieve the suffering of Palestinian civilians, including children, and condemn without reservation the violence in Gaza and the brutal policies being applied by Israel. I condemn the genocide and stand with victims, humanity, and demand accountability and justice. At the same time, I cherish the Jewish community in Ireland, their history, and contributions to our shared society. Herzog Park is named for Chaim Herzog, born in Belfast and raised in Dublin, who was the son of the first Chief Rabbi of Ireland. Erasing such symbols of Irish‑Jewish heritage sends a dangerous message. Justice is advanced through equality, inter-faith solidarity, and protecting memory, not erasure. #HerzogPark #Ireland ✡️🇮🇪✝️☪️

The Islamic Solidarity Games are currently taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, bringing together over 3,000 athletes from 57 Muslim nations. Despite labelling itself "Islamic," the competition imposes no obligation on the mandatory hijab or restrictions on western-style sporting attire for men or women. For modesty reasons, 5Pillars has chosen not to feature images of semi naked women participating in sports such as athletics and swimming.

In Switzerland, autumn brings a charming tradition — cows adorned with vibrant flowers and clanging bells are led down from alpine pastures to the valleys, marking their return for winter.

Greysteel Massacre Anniversary 30th October 1993 Remembering my uncle today, John Moyne, aged 50, a devoted father of four and a gentleman who never held a sectarian thought in his life. John was murdered in the Greysteel massacre at the Rising Sun pub in Greysteel, where he and other innocent people were gunned down by UDA/UFF terrorists, simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thinking of my auntie, cousins and my mum today, as well as our extended family, who carry their grief with such quiet strength and dignity, using it as a force to help others. Trauma doesn’t end, we learn to live alongside it, I remember that night, it froze time for us, others it changed forever, we continue holding love, loss and anger in the same breath. To the other families remembering loved ones today, to those families who also share the pain after the Shankill bomb, who are seeing an empty chair and feeling the weight of what was taken, I see you, I hear you, and I feel your pain. You are not alone. It was never okay to be killing, murdering, or maiming anyone. Talk, debate more, and talk till the wee hours, and think of everyone when you do. Never Forgotten 🤍 #NeverForgotten #Greysteel

As a Jewish kid in Sarajevo, BIH, I was welcomed in Gazi Husrev-begova džamija by Hafiz Mahmud Traljic-an imam whose love and respect for humanity were second to none. He saw me as a fellow soul first, then as a Jew. No Jewish rabbi or Christian priest enlightened my soul like he did to date and it has been over 50 years. I question your question! Yup! There is nothing wrong with children studying in mosques. I did! Throughout Islamic history, the mosque has been a central institution not only for prayer but also for learning, civic engagement, and communal development. Many of the world’s earliest centers of higher education, such as Al-Qarawiyyin in Morocco and Al-Azhar in Egypt, began as mosque-based schools. Within these spaces, children traditionally learned reading, writing, mathematics, and moral philosophy alongside Qur’anic studies. In many societies, especially where educational infrastructure was limited or under reconstruction, mosques functioned as vital hubs for intellectual and moral formation, providing access to structured learning and mentorship when few other resources existed. Irrefutably, like Hebrew schools, mosque classes complement rather than compete with secular schooling, reinforcing discipline, empathy, and community awareness. Much like church-based catechism or temple instruction, these programs strengthen identity and moral grounding without isolating learners from civic or academic development. This mosque aligns with a long tradition of integrated education that cultivates both faith and intellect. I’m so sick of people demeaning Muslim effort to cultivate its adherents and welcome strangers, like I once was, into their midst! Stop already.

All forms of religious extremism are dangerous and misguided. Those who glorify such extremists see them as “brave,” but in truth, they are blinded by their fanaticism. Whether Muslim or Christian, extremism stems from ignorance and arrogance, not from faith or courage. True bravery lies in standing for justice, compassion, and peace and not in hatred or division. There is no bravery in shouting at elderly people and neither is there in stalking children.

I remember a book of his (Classic Lines?) in the library when I was very young. I thought that it was beautiful. It was obviously a sacred text then as it wasn’t available to take out to an 8 year old horse fanatic like me!

Had it not been for Bosnia, the world might never have gained the rotary cooler for internal combustion engines — an invention by Bosnian engineer Fikret Alić that integrated pump, cooler, and ventilator in a single device to maximize heat exchange and engine longevity.
