1: A lot of people still don’t understand that 1RM is fluid and moves day to day. If you’re programming is based off percentages, you need to be seriously in tune with your body or athletes body in order to get the dose of stimulus right, day after day, week after week. – at Republic of Slovenia

Training smarter doesn't mean lifting less. It means better programming.
Physical therapist and strength coach @drjohnrusin says "longevity" has become a reason for people to back off. Someone hears the word, drops the load, drops the intensity, and slow-rolls into a program that's safe but doesn't do anything. The client stays healthy in the sense that nothing hurts, and loses the exact capacities they hired a coach to protect.
Power starts declining somewhere around your early thirties, roughly 1 to 2% a year. Muscle is the same story. If you aren't actively building or keeping it, you're losing it. You still have to lift.
What smarter looks like instead:
- Train what declines. Muscle, strength, power. If it leaves on its own, it has to be actively kept.
- Every block should work now and still hold up years from now.
- Keep the challenge, change the dose. The stimulus stays. How it's loaded, sequenced, and recovered from is what gets more careful.
- The principles that make someone strong, capable, and resilient don't change with the sport or the age. What changes is how you apply them.
Longevity doesn't mean back off. It means be more strategic.

Sadly I can only retweet this once!!! Well Said Wes. 100% endorse these sentiments.
Spent much of today with Special Forces. Of all the people and capabilities I’ve met in the past couple of months, I wish I could show the public the full extent of who they are and what they do. It has made me (even more) proud to be British and of our capabilities as a country - despite the challenges.

Humbling experience to present @UKSCA National Conference… 30 years of reflection and insight, delivered in just over 45 mins. The key takeaway: The human remains front and centre of my professional practice. Of course, embed tech, but coaching is about the human.
Drop me a message if you’ll be at the conference next weekend. Plenty of familiar faces no doubt, but keen to connect with coaches curious to know more about career longevity and the human in human performance.

We squander too much of our free time feeling guilty that we’re not working.
In 1 of every 7 moments of fun and relaxation, people feel bad that they're not being “productive”—robbing themselves of joy and rejuvenation.
Leisure is not a bug. It’s a feature of a good life.
