Edge is comprised of being better at trading (a) or story telling (b). The more complex the word salad the closer you are to (b) than (a).
Edge is comprised of: a) information arbitrage (faster and more accurate Bayesian updating and/or accessing mispriced bets the marginal participant doesn't have access to) and b) risk warehousing (taking on variance other people don't want to experience)

If 20% of the firm is dedicated to public good then is 80% for public bad?
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit. It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion. In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding. In the post below, we share more details about our new fund. anthropic.com/news/public-be…

Watching these 15 year old Asian boys rave about their AI stuff is Gunna be fun to watch in 5 years (as comedy) and 15 years (as prophetic in a underestimated way)

Wow outside of math Terence is retarded just like me
This is a slide from Terence Tao's 'Math 2.0' public lecture yesterday evening at Caltech. I am highly confident that, if the cure actually worked, almost any Stage 4 cancer patient would tell you that human comprehension of its mechanism is completely irrelevant to them.

Avarice and hoarding is a sin - doesn’t even fund new ventures to further humanity. In this regard Elon is a better person than Buffett
Warren Buffett has enough money to build armies, topple regimes, patronize world-changing artists… instead he just sits on his cash, watches the Line Go Up He still drives a shitbox car, eats fast food slop every day, even denies his pregnant daughter a loan He has achieved Total Boomer Zen

Tower of Babel
There is a book called 17 Equations That Changed the World. Pythagoras, Newton, Maxwell, Schrödinger, Navier–Stokes, thermodynamics, Black–Scholes. These equations sit quietly behind GPS, wireless communication, aviation, weather forecasting, MRI and modern finance. It took us millennia to get here. Now imagine the pace of mathematical discovery accelerating by orders of magnitude, and that acceleration spilling into physics, chemistry, biology and engineering. Is Mars really that far anymore? How far are we from cryptographically relevant quantum computers? Fusion? Designing drugs and materials almost entirely in silico? It is hard to overstate how much real-world progress could be compressed into the next couple of decades if reasoning itself starts compounding.

The key here is working for a Graham in 1950 and not a Graham in 2026. If you pick wrong person you’re fucked - and that’s where the brand / pedigree of the institution is a backup when you’re young
from an earlier post: "if I was 18-21 I would consider picking a specific person -- like, you are dead set on working for this one analyst/sector -- and just going after it aggressively...saying, basically: "I want to work for you, pay me dogshit, I want 2 years mentorship, and I will work my ass off and shut the fuck up." a lot of people are going to respond favorably to that....I see guys my age, 40, executing on that with a guy thats 60 and at 20 thats all anyone wants u got two roles: SDSU, DFIU. sit down, shut up, dont fuck it up when u do fuck up - and u will - do not ever make the same mistake twice if you execute on that, you will prob glidepath to age 30+ without much problem, and get everything u want out of life." -- only thing I'd add (which I've said numerous times in DM replies) is basically: if you can afford it, offer to work for nothing. turns out, that same path ended up working out prettty well for this guy...

Something so gay about public market investors hanging up photos of their portfolio like they’re VCs or something. Might as well print out a monkey NFT and frame it.
My portfolio is one big bet on man's inability to change

Peter Thiel really nailed it when he said AI would kill numbercels faster than wordcels. The marketing girly will outlast the autist math nerd
🚨wtf. OpenAI says its new internal model it began training just 24 days ago has already resolved more than 100 long-standing open problems across most areas of mathematics. The pace has surprised even OpenAI's own mathematicians. An independent group including Edward Witten, Timothy Gowers and Martin Hairer is now helping assess the results and coordinate how they are released.

What if the lone black guy was Michelle Obama? Would confuse both sides so much
The lone Black juror on the Lindsay Clancy trial who refused to acquit her used an exercise band and an empty water bottle to visually reenact the way Clancy strangled her three children. The incident was said to have disturbed the other 11 jurors. He was also said to have ignored the other jurors and scrolled on his phone while they attempted to speak with him or dissuade him from his decision. A male juror who voted to acquit Clancy, Nick Dargie, complained to ABC that “there wasn’t a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was.” Due to the lone Black juror’s heroic refusal to bow to pressure from the other 11 jurors, Clancy remains in state custody, likely awaiting another trial by prosecutors. AI turns all intellectual pursuits into efficient markers finance style - exciting time
Still more absolute 🔥 from Terence Tao: “We have now seen that even the rumor of someone working on a problem can trigger a massive amount of AI-powered effort to flatten it before the original research project has time to reach its full potential. The incentives may now be pointing in the direction of no longer sharing any promising research directions with the broader community, which would reverse centuries of traditions of open science and do serious long-term damage to the future of the field”
