ALT A pink infographic on the results of a meta-analysis investigating how frequently fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) co-occur with other mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions. The sample consisted of 57 studies, which totaled 29,644 participants. Notably, 82% of people with PAE had a co-occurring condition. A bar graph compares the prevalence of 15 diagnoses in the general population (blue, right bars) versus PAE/FASD populations (pink, left bars). For all conditions, prevalence was higher among PAE/FASD compared to individuals without PAE/FASD. ADHD prevalence was the highest at 51%. 3 factors influenced prevalence in PAE/FASD populations; age, gender, and diagnostic status. Specifically, anxiety, depression, and PTSD were more prevalent in females than males. Anxiety, depression, ODD, ID, PTSD, attachment disorder, and OCD prevalence increased with participant age. An FASD diagnosis was associated with increased prevalence of anxiety.
