The mainstream view has been that statins reduce the progression of atherosclerosis and stabilize plaques, but don’t reverse it.
That’s not true. They reverse it as well.
🫀 Can coronary atherosclerosis actually regress?
Our new randomized FLOWPROMOTE trial analysis, published TODAY in JAMA Cardiology, shows remarkable coronary plaque regression with intensive LDL-C lowering!
Atherosclerosis is not necessarily a one-way process.

Polish PM Donald Tusk: "I sincerely wish that we would never have to witness scenes like these in Poland. However, giving in to lawlessness and violence cannot be the way to achieve peace. A democratic state must be strong and capable of enforcing justice.
We have been watching this situation with concern for many hours. It is difficult for all of us to understand what the groups of politicians and activists from PiS and Confederation, ranging from Braun to Bąkiewicz, are trying to achieve by pushing and shoving.
The police are responding to acts of aggression calmly but firmly.
The attack on the Constitutional Tribunal and its judges is yet another chapter in the process of destroying the rule of law in Poland by PiS and Presidents Duda and Nawrocki.
Together with the parliamentary majority, I have made attempts to repair the Tribunal. Nobody had any doubts that the Tribunal, in the form imposed by PiS, was not a genuine court. This was the assessment of international institutions, respected Polish legal authorities, and public opinion.
We proposed resolutions and legislation to all political forces and both presidents that would have made it possible to jointly restore the rule of law. All in vain. Everything was blocked by the President and PiS.
We therefore waited patiently for the election of new judges, until the terms of their predecessors appointed by PiS expired.
The Sejm elected the judges. They took their oath, but the President did not see fit to receive it. The lawfully elected judges were blocked by Tribunal President Święczkowski and were unable to take up their duties.
And when, after many weeks of patiently waiting, they finally decided to assume their responsibilities rather than wait any longer for Mr Święczkowski to change his position, they were attacked.
I want to make this absolutely clear: lawfully elected members of the Constitutional Tribunal were attacked, and the police on the scene were protecting the Tribunal from the aggressors.
To simplify matters, let me use an analogy.
Imagine a situation in which a thief snatches an elderly woman's handbag and runs away. When he is apprehended, he starts shouting that violence is being used against him and calls the attempt to recover the stolen property an act of robbery.
Meanwhile, some bystanders and so-called centrists suggest that, to resolve the situation peacefully, the thief and his victim should simply split the contents of the handbag equally.
There are matters on which there can be no compromise.
Shouting, lies, and brawling cannot be the source of law in Poland, and they never will be.
Democracy is the best, and unfortunately also the most difficult, system humanity has ever devised. It is a source of pride for us as Poles that democracy was our first sovereign choice after regaining independence.
Democracy is our tradition and the source of a success that is now recognised around the world. Thanks to it, we are growing stronger.
The rule of law differs from the law of the jungle in that justice is not determined by physical strength or brute force.
In a state governed by the rule of law, a judge, even if she is a petite woman, does not yield to an aggressive bully.
The rule of law protects the weak just as much as the strong.
In a state governed by the rule of law, a politician cannot enter a court or tribunal and issue orders or intimidate judges, even if that politician is the President.
The rule of law does not see party colours and knows no such thing as impunity.
Let us call things by their proper names.
For years, there have been organisations and politicians in Poland who want to destroy democracy and the rule of law. It is not my task today to judge their motives. Whether it is greed, stupidity, or treason, the result is ultimately the same.
And it is no coincidence that they find support around the world among pro-Russian forces.
Today, in this conflict, they are also benefiting from the support of the Russian army of internet bots. They have even received public praise from the Kremlin's chief ideologue.
We waited far too long for the treasure that is an independent, democratic Poland to become frightened and give in.
We Poles have achieved far too much in building a strong state to surrender it now.
I am confident that the Constitutional Tribunal will begin functioning as it should, independently, autonomously, and in accordance with the Constitution, including independently of me.
It is the responsibility of the executive branch, and therefore my responsibility, to ensure its security and provide it with the conditions necessary to work.
And I intend to fulfil that responsibility.
Poland is strong, democratic, and determined. It has not perished, and it will not perish.
Thank you very much."

The situation in Poland is much simpler than all the talk of a “coup” suggests.
PiS, Jarosław Kaczyński’s party, which backed current President Karol Nawrocki, refused to recognise three lawfully elected Constitutional Tribunal judges back in 2015, together with then-President Andrzej Duda. Those judges were Roman Hauser, Andrzej Jakubecki and Krzysztof Ślebzak. PiS installed its own picks in their seats: Henryk Cioch, Lech Morawski and Mariusz Muszyński. Even after the Tribunal confirmed that the original three had been lawfully elected, PiS and Duda refused to respect its ruling. They put their own political interests above the court’s decision.
Yes, the previous PO–PSL coalition had also broken the rules by electing two additional judges before it was entitled to: Bronisław Sitek and Andrzej Sokala. But when the Tribunal ruled against those appointments, the coalition accepted the decision. Borys Budka even apologised on behalf of PO. PiS never complied with the ruling concerning the three lawfully elected judges. That difference matters. One side accepted an unfavourable ruling. The other refused to obey it.
The court’s membership changed over the years. Cioch and Morawski died in 2017 and were replaced by Jarosław Wyrembak and Justyn Piskorski. Muszyński’s nine-year term ended in December 2024. Other judges’ terms ended too. Seats became vacant, and new judges needed to be elected.
Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal judges are elected by the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, for nine-year terms. Donald Tusk’s governing coalition currently holds a majority there. That majority has the constitutional right to elect judges to fill those vacancies. PiS losing its parliamentary majority did not give it the right to block that process indefinitely.
The Sejm elected eight new judges. President Nawrocki accepted the oaths of three: Magdalena Bentkowska, Dariusz Szostek and Sławomir Patyra. But he refused to accept the oaths of the other five: Krystian Markiewicz, Maciej Taborowski, Marcin Dziurda, Anna Korwin-Piotrowska and Maciej Berek. They eventually took their oaths without him present, formally addressing them to the president.
The oath is required by law. But it does not give the president a personal veto over parliament’s choice of judges. He is required to accept their oaths. The Tribunal itself ruled on this back in 2015. In October 2026, the Venice Commission backed that interpretation and supported allowing judges to take their oaths without the president physically present if he blocks the process, provided the necessary formalities are followed.
Yet the leadership of the very same Tribunal where PiS had unlawfully installed its own judges refused to let the new judges do their jobs. The court’s president, Bogdan Święczkowski, insisted that they could not serve unless they took their oaths in Nawrocki’s presence. The president blocked the normal procedure, and the Tribunal’s leadership used that blockage to keep them out.
On October 30, Anna Korwin-Piotrowska announced the temporary suspension of Święczkowski and his deputy, Bartłomiej Sochański, and assumed leadership of the Tribunal. Lawyers dispute whether she had the legal authority to suspend them in that way. That specific step deserves legal scrutiny. It does not erase the obstruction that led to it.
I support Tusk’s efforts to end this obstruction, and I don’t buy the claims of a coup. PiS does not get to unlawfully install its own judges, refuse to respect court rulings, and then demand that everyone treat the situation it created as untouchable.
Tusk is right to push back. Judges elected by the Sejm should be allowed to do their jobs. The president has constitutional duties, not a personal veto over the court’s membership. And PiS has no permanent claim to Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal.

Meloni Refuses to End Support for Ukraine: “I Understand I May Lose Votes, but I Will Not Change My Position.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has made a firm statement amid growing debates over military assistance to Kyiv, rising living costs, and increased defense spending.
In an interview for journalist Bruno Vespa's new book, History of the Second Republic, scheduled for release on November 2, the Italian prime minister acknowledged that supporting Ukraine could cost her some voters.
“I fully understand that our support for Ukraine may come at a political cost. That even among our own voters, there are people who disagree with it. But I have no intention of changing my position.”
Meloni emphasized that her decisions are guided primarily by Italy's national interests.
“I support Ukraine not simply for the sake of Ukrainians. I do it for Italy.”
According to Meloni, an international order in which military force alone determines what is right poses a serious threat to her country.
She urged people to consider the consequences of a possible Ukrainian defeat.
“If we had allowed Ukraine to be easily conquered, could we really be certain that Moscow would stop there rather than move further?”
Meloni also addressed the possibility of Russia attacking a NATO member state. In such a scenario, she explained, NATO allies would face a choice between responding militarily and effectively abandoning their collective defense commitments, potentially threatening the very existence of the Alliance.
“I support Ukraine because all the other scenarios are potentially even more frightening,” the prime minister stated.
She also praised the resistance of Ukrainian society, describing it as an expression of patriotism.
“There is a people, a history, an identity that refuse to be destroyed. I would call that patriotism. And as a woman of the political right, I cannot help but admire it.”
Her remarks come amid disagreements within Italy's governing coalition. Matteo Salvini, leader of the League party, has previously called for an end to further military and financial assistance to Ukraine, while Meloni continues to insist on supporting Kyiv.

It all went on staff salaries — ie, paying themselves to produce the most vicious “anti-Zio” content you’ll find anywhere — plus a hefty operating surplus.
And guess what. All of this was in direct contravention of @creative_gov_au guidelines, which state that artists must be paid for their work.

And the bureaucrats at @creative_gov_au were desperate to comply.
They got sprung. But even now they keep mumbling about how Mentaldude “published book reviews” as if that justified their decision to deem him an artist. More on that here:

THE MOST INCOMPETENT WAR IN HISTORY: SARAH PAINE ON TRUMP’S IRAN DISASTER
Dr. Sarah Paine, a leading historian of great-power conflict and strategy, delivers a blunt verdict on the Iran war. She calls it one of the most incompetent wars in human history. The decision ignored basic principles of assessment, put maximum costs on America itself, and left permanent damage to the country’s power and alliances. This is not hindsight—it is the predictable result of hubris meeting reality.
THE CORE VERDICT
➡️ “The Iran war is probably one of the most incompetent wars in human history.”
➡️ A competent war puts the costs on the enemy and minimizes them for yourself.
➡️ This one did the opposite.
THE COST CATASTROPHE
➡️ It trashed the US economy.
➡️ It blew the US alliance system.
➡️ Iran is hurting, but the collateral damage is taking down the world’s economy.
➡️ That transforms the United States from a partner into an annoyance—and for many, a primary adversary—because it is threatening their economies.
➡️ “That’s breathtakingly incompetent.”
THE STRATEGIC BLIND SPOT
➡️ Any serious assessment looks at the enemy’s strengths and your own weaknesses, plus everyone else who might intervene.
➡️ That was absent.
➡️ The first thing Iran would do is shut Hormuz. Narrow seas close in wartime. Ukraine already showed this with the Black Sea.
➡️ Shore artillery, mines, and other tools stop traffic. There is no mystery here.
➡️ The big naval base in Bahrain becomes unreachable. The fallback is Diego Garcia, 2,500 miles away in the middle of nowhere. “That would be a mess.”
THE HUBRIS THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE
➡️ The people making the calls are historically unqualified for the job. That makes them profoundly dangerous.
➡️ Type A hubris assumes all decisions that matter happen in the United States.
➡️ Type B hubris assumes being good at one thing makes you good at everything.
➡️ Half-court tennis: you only watch your own side and never study the other team.
➡️ The Iranians understand Americans far better than Americans understand them.
THE UNFEASIBLE OBJECTIVE
➡️ Trying to “solve” Iran with 90 million people was never realistic.
➡️ Nazi Germany had roughly 80 million and required an occupation force of about 1.5 million just to hold it after the war—before counting everyone else.
➡️ The goal was unattainable. Pursuing it guarantees overextension and a bad ending.
➡️ The lesson the world takes is simple: get a nuke. The war incentivized proliferation.
➡️ This was a pivotal error. The choices that existed before are gone and will not return. “We will never be the trusted partner ever again. It’s done.”
THE BOTTOM LINE
The Iran war did not merely fail. It maximized American costs, destroyed trust with allies, and handed every rival a clearer reason to treat the United States as a threat to their own prosperity. Competence would have contained the problem at affordable cost. Hubris chose the opposite.
This is what permanent strategic damage looks like.

@SenPaterson recently challenged her on this point, as covered by @SharriMarkson. youtube.com/watch?v=DRWqTb_8…
Wong’s now-altered account remains false. Arguing about the time frame fails to grapple with the fundamental blood libel she promoted: that children have been displaced by the canard of “settler violence”.
The false statistic in fact alleged “displacement” from refugee camps in the northern West Bank (Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur al-Shams) in early 2025, which arose from operations against Hamas in these locations. Counter-terror operations, not “settler violence”. Operations necessitated by Hamas violence. Hamas, the internationally proscribed organisation that these contemptible positions ultimately support.
In a truly twisted fashion, these world leaders' false statements feed into one another. Macron’s laughable proposition that Hamas does not operate in Gaza facilitates Wong’s lie by removing Hamas from the picture. That is the ongoing assault on truth, and it is a tragedy.

BREAKING! Swarm Telepathy!
1/12
Everyone building multi-agent AI systems makes the exact same mistake:
We force AI agents to talk to each other in English.
New research from MIT CSAIL & IBM just proved that if you skip the text and let different AI models "telepathically" beam their raw memories to each other, they get 40% more accurate and 4x faster.
Here is how "Swarm Telepathy" works—and why text is actually a massive bottleneck. 🧵👇
2/12
Think about how your current multi-agent pipeline works:
Agent A reads a massive document.
Agent A slowly generates a text summary (token by token).
Agent B reads that summary from scratch (re-prefilling) before doing its own work.
You’re paying for compute twice. Worse, you’re squeezing a massive, multi-dimensional mental state through the narrow straw of a few English sentences. It's like trying to explain a painting over a telegraph.
3/12
Internally, Agent A already did the hard work. It built a rich internal representation of the context called a KV-cache (Key-Value cache). It holds every layer’s view of every token.
Instead of forcing Agent A to write a summary, why not just hand its KV-cache directly to Agent B?
Until now, there was a massive catch: you could only do this if both agents were from the exact same model family.
4/12
Different AI families (like Meta’s Llama, Alibaba’s Qwen, and Google’s Gemma) have completely different architectures, layer counts, and tokenizers. Their "brains" are wired differently.
Trying to plug Qwen’s memory directly into Llama is like trying to run macOS RAM dumps on a Windows machine.
Or so we thought.
5/12
Enter SwaT (Swarm Telepathy).
The researchers bet on the Platonic Representation Hypothesis—the idea that all great AI models, regardless of who built them, converge on the same underlying understanding of reality. They just express it in different coordinates.
If that’s true, you don't need text. You just need a translator between their memory spaces.
6/12
So they built one.
SwaT is a tiny (~300M parameter) transformer mapper that sits between two completely frozen LLMs.
It takes the sender’s KV-cache, aligns the mismatched tokenizers using character spans (so zero tokens get dropped), translates the internal layers, and injects the newly formatted memory straight into the receiver.
The receiver never reads a single word of the original document. It just suddenly knows it.
7/12
When they combined SwaT with KV-cache compression (Attention Matching) and pitted it against standard text-to-text summarization across 7 long-context benchmarks, the results were wild:
• ~40% higher task accuracy (up to 48.8% geometric mean gain)
• 4.2x faster on the sender side
• 4.3x faster time-to-first-token on the receiver side
• 8x to 45x fewer FLOPs than re-reading the text
Stop tuning summarization prompts. The summary is the bug, not the feature.
8/12
And that’s when things got really weird.
Remember: the SwaT translator was ONLY trained on English text.
Out of curiosity, the researchers hooked up a Vision-Language Model (Gemma 3) as the sender, and a blind, text-only LLM (Llama 3 / Granite) as the receiver.
Gemma looked at an image. SwaT beamed the cache to Llama. And the text-only model suddenly started answering visual questions about the image—beating text captions by up to 3x.
9/12
They tried it again with foreign languages.
Llama 3 (8B) struggles with Chinese compared to Qwen 3 (4B), trailing by ~20 points on the CMMLU benchmark.
When Qwen read the Chinese questions and beamed its cache to Llama via SwaT, Llama closed 75% of the knowledge gap—zero-shot.
They even had a long-context model read a 28k-token document, chunk the memory, and beam it into a model with a strict 8k context limit. It worked.
10/12
Here is the most practical takeaway for AI engineers right now:
Hire the thinker, rent the talker.
The paper shows that when a large model (like a 12B or 32B) reads a document and transfers its cache to a tiny model (like a 3B or 4B), the tiny model actually scores >100% of its normal capability (up to 143% for SmolLM3 3B!).
You can use a heavyweight model to "read and understand" once, and let dirt-cheap models handle the downstream queries using its borrowed brain.
11/12
Now, putting on my skeptic hat—where does this break?
The n(n−1)n(n-1)n(n−1) problem: Right now, you need a custom mapper for every model pair. With 10 models, that’s 90 translators (until someone builds a universal shared latent space).
Fine details get blurry: On vision tasks requiring dense OCR (DocVQA), the telepathy failed.
Safety & Auditability: If agents pass raw latent states instead of text, humans can't read the logs. And as the authors admit, a cache can hide information that isn't explicit in the text.
12/12
For years, we've treated natural language as the universal API between AI agents because it's convenient for us to read.
SwaT proves that our convenience is costing our systems massive amounts of speed and intelligence.
In 2 years, will your agents still be writing essays to each other? Or will KV-caches become the true API, and text just the audit log for humans?

Wall Street’s reaction was ice cold. Even with Moscow offering steep discounts, grey-market oil traders hid under their desks. Ex-Treasury officials warned that touching the ships was corporate suicide, leaving 140,000 tonnes of diesel floating without a single buyer. 6/
